Copping their name from ***[William S. Burroughs](https://cutt.ly/knKjvcv)*** euphemism for ejaculation, ***"Thin White Rope"*** was founded in Davis, California in 1984. Although the time and place of their formation aligned them with both the Paisley Underground and roots rock movements, the group quickly staked out its own musical territory, divining their own unique brand of dark, surreal, desert rock.
***"Thin White Rope"*** was led by singer/guitarist ***[Guy Kyser](https://cutt.ly/UnHksbT)***, whose harsh, tightly coiled vocals and unsettling lyrics combined to give the band its edge; in the group's first incarnation, Kyser was joined by guitarist ***[Roger Kunkel](https://cutt.ly/ynHkhgk)***, bassist ***Kevin Staydohar*** (soon replaced by ***Steven Tesluk***), and drummer ***Jozef Becker***.
***"The One That Got Away"*** is the sixth and last full-length album by ***"Thin White Rope"***. The double CD is a recording of the band's last show and was recorded live on 28 June 1992, at ***"[Democrazy](https://www.democrazy.be/)"*** in Gent, Belgium.
It comprises the entire show, except for ***"[The Ruby Sea](https://cutt.ly/RmurPu0)"*** and ***"[Moonhead](https://cutt.ly/SmuraTl)"***, which were released as a 7" vinyl single, and ***"Thing"***, which has never been released in any format to date.
Most interestingly, the recording's surprisingly high quality reveals that much of the slickness of the band's album work is due not so much to production, but to the band's presentation itself - as their rhythm section churns through tight rock workouts, guitars lay smooth, atmospheric textures above them in a live format.

***”Pixies”*** are an American alternative rock band formed in 1986 in **Boston, Massachusetts**. The band disbanded acrimoniously in 1993, but reunited in 2004. After Deal left in 2013, Pixies hired ***[Kim Shattuck](https://cutt.ly/Qng3OIr)*** as a touring bassist; she was replaced the same year by ***[Paz Lenchantin](https://cutt.ly/6ng3SPH)***, who became a permanent member in 2016.
Combining jagged, roaring guitars and stop-start dynamics with melodic pop hooks, intertwining male-female harmonies, and evocative, cryptic lyrics, ***"Pixies"*** are one of alternative rock's most influential bands.
They turned conventions inside-out, melding punk and indie guitar rock, classic pop, surf rock, and stadium-sized riffs with bizarre, fragmented lyrics about space, religion, sex, mutilation, and pop culture. No matter how much lyrics may have been impenetrable, the music was direct, forceful, and laid the groundwork for the alternative explosion of the early '90s.
The band’s seventh album, ***”Beneath the Eyrie”***, were influenced by their gothic surroundings during the writing and recording process, with vocalist and guitarist Black Francis stating: *"I wanted to intermingle with the spirit world, with life and death and with the mystical and a more surreal landscape”*.

Too often on those albums, it felt like the band was trying to live up to someone else's expectations of what they should sound like. On ***"Beneath the Eyrie"***, however, it sounds like they weren't trying to please anyone but themselves; paradoxically, the results are their most engaging set of songs since they reunited. Instead of caricaturing the best-known (and most copied) elements of their sound, they build on different, more versatile sides of their legacy.
Spookier and more fun, as well as looser and more cohesive than the band's two previous albums, ***”BtE”*** isn't just the best Pixies 2.0 album to date -- it suggests they just might be stepping out of the shadow of their legendary past.

The friction between Morrissey and Marr resulted in a flurry of singles and albums over the course of three years that provided the blueprint for British guitar rock in the following decade.
***"Rank"*** is the band's only live album, recorded live at The National Ballroom in London in October of 1986, roughly six months before they disbanded altogether, these 14 songs capture the Smiths performing in full-on rock-star mode.
It’s an essential part of any Smiths fan's collection, and it's an enlightening live peek at a foursome who many deem the greatest band of the 1980s, and more than a few others deem the last great band period.

***Sonic Youth*** was an American rock band based in *New York City*, formed in 1981.
