Dog Mythology: Our companion to the Afterlife
Dogs have been used in funeral rites across Indo-European culture, and these rituals explain many things, such as why dogs are in the Wild Hunt and with Death Gods, but it also explains why our ancestors believed dogs took our "souls" into the other world.

I sometimes hear that people are not sure of the differences between the Poetic Edda and the Prose Edda, and so in this short video I explain the differences between each book, and why there are different versions of each book. To understand this puts you in a great position to understand Norse mythology, norse paganism, the wisdom of odin, the havamal, asatru, and the stories of the gods, in the best way.
We talk about issues in translation and the fashion of English when writing the translation, as well as which source seems to be most likely to be more accurate.

Creation Myths often have twin figures, Yemo, Tuisto, Apsu and Tiamat, even Adam and Eve, the first couple in the bible, part of the Abrahamic creation myth, and in Indo-European traditions there are couples too, they can be found in the Old Norse Askr and Embla, the Vedic Yama and Yamĩ, and the Iranian Mašya and Mašyānag.
These couples are made from trees or rocks, bones or dragon teeth, or similar items that were lying around when the god or gods decided to make them. But the human origin myth in Roman, Germanic, and Indo-Iranian sources suggests a much more complex story behind these couples, in effect suggesting their origins maybe as twins.
In this video I look at the proto indo european twins of creation, from Ymir to Yemo, and Purusa to Tuisto, to discover who is the twin of whom, and perhaps find out that a twin pairing is not as simple as it appears, and a very recent version of the myth.
A significant amount of the detail here comes from Jaan Puhvel's Comparative Mythology book, and specifically his chapter on Twins.

From Viking Scandinavia to ancient Egypt, and into modern day Japan, cats have a rich history in folklore. But to understand the full story, we must first understand how cats became domesticated, especially considering that humans have spent a majority of the last 100,000 years avoiding them as natural predators.
