Ben Burgis argues with an “objectivist” philosopher about Ayn Rand’s argument that capitalism is good because statist coercion destroys “the mind” and the mind is key to our survival. Rand claimed that all the other modern moral philosophies all preach self-sacrifice, whereas hers was unique in encouraging human survival and flourishing. Ben explains to the objectivist that every single part of this is nonsense.

Glenn Greenwald — author, journalist, attorney — joins Ben Burgis to discuss Greenwald’s recent resignation from The Intercept, a site that he founded, over issues of what he felt was censorship from Intercept editors. He discusses this incident along with larger issues such as the tangled web of political allegiances that exist today that make it difficult for citizens to determine who’s beholden to whom.

Frequent GTAA guest Ryan Lake wrote an award-winning doctoral dissertation arguing that free will and determinism are compatible. Philosopher Gregg Caruso recently co-authored a collection of battling free will essays with Daniel Dennett where Caruso was on the "nope, not compatible, and free will is ultimately an illusion" side. In this debate (re-aired from Season 4, Episode 1) the two scholars duke it out with Ben, for once, acting as moderator.

Author Thomas Frank (https://twitter.com/thomasfrank_) (https://tcfrank.com/) joins Ben Burgis to discuss the history and the present day reality of the Democratic Party. Some of Frank’s books include, “Listen, Liberal: Or, Whatever Happened to the Party of the People?,” “What’s the Matter with Kansas? How Conservatives Won the Heart of America,” and “The Wrecking Crew: How Conservatives Rule,” among others.
Frank cofounded and edited “The Baffler” (https://twitter.com/thebafflermag) magazine. His most recent book is “The People, No: A Brief History of Anti-Populism,” which discusses how the term “populism” is currently used to describe the racist philosophy of Donald Trump and European extremists, but that populism is actually “an account of enlightenment and liberation; it is the story of American democracy itself, of its ever-widening promise of a decent life for all.”

Left-wing academic philosopher, Jacobin contributor, and "What's Left of Philosophy?" co-host Lillian Cicerchia comes back on the show to talk to Ben Burgis about Karl Marx's book "The Poverty of Philosophy" and, more broadly, different ways of construing materialism vs. idealism debates and the sometimes vexed relationship between moral critiques of capitalism and Marxist thought. Before that, Ben and the GTAA crew are going to get into a Tucker Carlson followup, the recent strike victory at Rutgers, and Bernie vs. Chris Wallace on whether there should be billionaires. In the postgame for GTAA patrons, Jason Myles and Deep State Kuba from This is Revolution podcast are going to join Ben and the crew to watch a expose recently done by intrepid journalists on....the fact that leftists sometimes got to each other's weddings. Ben WILL be held to account for this infraction.
