Josip Broz Tito of Yugoslavia - Still #1 in Balkans?
There has never been a leader from the west Balkans who has been so prominent in world affairs as Josip Broz Tito.

Just look at any political figure today from the former YU region and they are not even near of being anywhere in sight of what Tito was. It’s almost hard to imagine that a leader from the former Yugoslav republics got the red carpet in USA. A leader who met all the important leaders and when he died had a massive, and perhaps the biggest, burial ceremony. Back then people had something whereas today each republic is struggling.
For good or worse, one cannot say anything else. Tito is still the number 1 man. But remember he is also a natural born thug and has a dark history. Being a ruthless man and most certainly one of those psychopaths that would go over anyone to get what they want.
Worth mentioning is that Tito wasn't an angel but Yugoslavia as such could have had still been around. If it had managed a stable development and earlier integration with the EU and the west.
Here's a slide of photos just to show you what and where Yugoslavia was back then when he ruled. You can see Kennedy, Nixon, Soviet leaders and generally a bunch of dictators. Also the Swedish and British royalty... etc etc.
Just to mention Đuro Pucar, who plays chess with Tito in the video (0:20), gave away the Adriatic coastal part of Bosnia & Herzegovia called Sutorina after WWII, while being drunk, to Montenegro. Which left Bosnia & Herzegovina with Neum as the only sea access.

Macro-level crime like weapons, trafficking, drugs etc is part of black budgets for those governments involved. It serves the purpose of bribes, black ops or for whatever needs that don't go via the liable tax system. On the smaller lever, say international or national gang crime. The police has intelligence agencies and hi-tech equipment - so why don't they strike? The laws are weak? I'm sure good wo/men of law can bend some rules to get the dangers out of a decent society. The police always says they got an eye on and know who the criminals are. tThe people put in power to protect us don't do their job right - either because of incompetence or unwillingness? For the only groups who are brutally limited, scrutinized and viciously freely attacked are we, the ordinary citizens. We're the one track and traced for small stuff.
