Nimbasa City’s gym has roller coasters to ride on but some release trainers. Ride your way through on the tracks of each color and you’ll reach the gym leader. Elesa uses Electric type Pokémon. Both Emolga will use Quick Attack for first strikes, Pursuit on those who try to switch out, and Aerial Ace for never miss strikes. Zebstrika will use Spark to paralyze opponents and Flame Charge to speed itself up. After the battle, you’ll receive the Bolt Badge and a TM72 (Volt Switch). On Route 23, go west by crossing a bridge after leaving the Giant Chasm and go to the upper level to find a Hidden Grotto. Enter this Hidden Grotto and you’ll have a rare chance of encountering a special Gligar. It ranges between Levels 50-55. It also has the hidden ability, Immunity. With this ability, the user cannot be poisoned.

Accelgor will use Me First to copy off your move while striking first and Focus Blast for a big attack on advantaging foes. Bouffalant will use Head Charge for big damage at the cost of the user’s HP. Druddigon will use Outrage for 2-3 power strikes in a row then will become confused. Vanilluxe will use Light Screen and Acid Armor as a defensive combo. Saffron City has a Fighting Dojo next door left from the gym where you can battle some Black Belts. After defeating the Black Belts, you’ll take on the Karate Master. Hitmonlee will use Meditate to raise its Attack stat and Rolling Kick to make targets flinch. Hitmonchan will use Agility to speed up and Fire Punch to burn targets. After the battle, you can choose any of the 2 Poké Balls backstage. One holds Hitmonlee and the other holds Hitmonchan. You can only choose one so pick the one you want best.

After you explore Area 4 of the White Treehollow, you’ll take on the next boss trainer. Daneil is originally a Ranger. Scrafty will use Bulk Up to raise it power and Head Smash for big damage while hurting itself in the process. Once you reach Virbank City, enter the gym and you’ll hear a band playing. The band is so loud that Roxie won’t even notice you unless you defeat both her drummer and guitarist. Once both band members are quieted down, you’ll be able to battle Roxie. Roxie uses Poison type Pokémon. Koffing will use Smog to poison targets and Assurance if the target has already received damage that turn. Whirlipede will use Protect to avoid attacks and Rollout to hit consecutively for 5 turns as every successive hit gets stronger. After the battle, you’ll receive the Toxic Badge and a TM09 (Venoshock). If the target is poisoned, Venoshock will do double the damage.

After besting Asura, speak with the wizard next to her, and you’ll gain the privilege to battle against Leviathan. Leviathan will adjust its position as time passes. When it’s partially coiled up, it will summon a tidal wave, damaging your entire team. While looking down, it will use an ice spell that damages a single fighter. Using lightning spells or attacks will have an advantage. After winning, Rydia will gain the ability to summon Leviathan during battle.

In Challenge Mode, Skarmory is given a Sitrus Berry while Sigilyph is added. Swoobat will use Attract to stun opposite genders and Energy Ball to maybe lower their Special Defense stat. Skarmory will use Agility to speed up and Steel Wing to raise its Defense stat. Sigilyph will use Hypnosis to put opponents to sleep and Air Cutter for easy critical hits. Swanna will use Featherdance to sharply lower the Attack stat of foes and Roost to restore HP. After your victory, you’ll obtain the Jet Badge and a TM62 (Acrobatics). This move usually has a base power of 55, but if the user doesn’t have possession of an item, the move will do double the damage.
