Walking around the town centre of Chorley. My Adventure Planet
Chorley is a town and the administrative centre of the wider borough of Chorley in Lancashire, England.
Chorley is 8.1 miles (13 km) north of Wigan, 10.8 miles (17 km) south west of Blackburn, 11 miles (18 km) north west of Bolton, 12 miles (19 km) south of Preston and 19.5 miles (31 km) north west of Manchester.
Chorley town centre is bisected by the A6 Roman road.
It is located near to junctions 6 and 8 of the M61 motorway and junction 27 of the M6; Charnock Richard services are sited within the borough.
The town's wealth came principally from the cotton industry.
In the 1970s, the skyline was dominated by factory chimneys, but most have now been demolished.
Remnants of the industrial past include Morrisons chimney and other mill buildings and the streets of terraced houses for mill workers.
Also, given its location on the edge of Lancashire Coalfield, Chorley was vital in coal mining.
The last pit in the area to close was the Ellerbeck Colliery in 1987 which was located south of Chorley, between Coppull and Adlington.
Chorley had a population of 33,424 at the 2001 census, with the wider borough of Chorley having a population of 101,991.
The town is the home of the Chorley cake. Every October, the Chorley Cake Street Fair promotes the cakes with a competition for local bakers to produce the largest ever Chorley cake.

A walking tour around the Peter Street and Deansgate area of Manchester City Centre. My Adventure Planet
Home to some of Manchester's most stylish bars, clubs and cocktail lounges, Peter Street has gone through many changes in recent years.
Most recently Peter Street has transformed from being the magnet for stag parties, hen nights and drunken revellers to becoming a more upmarket area with some of the best cocktail lounges and Champagne bars in Manchester city centre.
Alongside the more sophisticated bars, real ale bars and live music venues, there's still a good selection of party venues for those looking for some fun.
Stretching from St Peter's Square down to the junction with Deansgate, the Peter Street area is the ideal place to visit for pre-show drinks with The Albert Hall, Opera House Manchester, Bridgewater Hall, Manchester Central, Palace Theatre and Manchester Town Hall all in the area.
At the bottom of Peter Street, cross over Deansgate onto Quay Street and you'll find more bars together with the modern Spinningfields business, shopping and restaurant development, just behind the Opera House.
The popular drinking areas of Deansgate, Portland Street, Oxford Road and Deansgate Locks are all nearby too.
Deansgate is a main road (part of the A56) through Manchester City Centre, England.
It runs roughly north–south in a near straight route through the western part of the city centre and is the longest road in the city centre at over one mile in length.
At the northern end of Deansgate is Victoria Street, on which lies Manchester Cathedral and at the southern end is Deansgate railway station.
At this point, Deansgate connects with Bridgewater Viaduct and Chester Road (Whitworth Street West meets it at this point).
The section to the south of Peter Street was known as Aldport Street until the end of the 18th century.
The street contains many shops including a House of Fraser department store (known as Kendals from the 1830s until 2005) and Waterstones along with many public houses and bars including the Moon Under Water, formerly the Deansgate Cinema (or ABC Deansgate).
At 820 square metres (8,800 sq ft), able to accommodate 1,700 customers and employing 60 staff, it has been listed in The Guinness Book of Records as the largest public house in Britain.
The northern end of the street adjoined the Shambles and was badly damaged in the 1996 Manchester bombing.
The area was redeveloped and houses several new buildings, including No. 1 Deansgate and the Manchester branch of Harvey Nichols.
Other buildings in the Deansgate area include the Royal Bank of Scotland, the Beetham Tower and the redeveloped Great Northern Warehouse.
Historic buildings include the John Rylands Library and the Barton Arcade shopping mall.
The disused Manchester and Salford Junction canal runs directly underneath Deansgate below the Great Northern Warehouse.
Today, the main transport links on Deansgate are the National Rail and Manchester Metrolink stations and a number of bus routes, including the Metroshuttle services.
Deansgate is a long straight street which has provided a venue for sporting events in the city centre.
In 2006, A1 Racing cars visited the city to launch A1 Grand Prix and used Deansgate as part of the route.
In August 2011, thousands packed the street as Jenson Button drove a McLaren MP4-23 along Deansgate as part of the Vodafone Vip Live Manchester festival.
In 2001, the inaugural Great City Games took place on Deansgate, which featured a 150-metre sprinting track.
The event has become an annual fixture on the Great Manchester Run weekend during mid-May. Usain Bolt set a world record for the 150 m straight in 2009 and Tyson Gay ran the 200 m straight in record time in 2010.

Street view of people in Bolton town centre relaxing outside a pub
in the sun. My Adventure Planet
Bolton is a large town in Greater Manchester, North West England, formerly a part of Lancashire.
A former mill town, Bolton has been a production centre for textiles since Flemish weavers settled in the area in the 14th century, introducing a wool and cotton-weaving tradition.
The urbanisation and development of the town largely coincided with the introduction of textile manufacture during the Industrial Revolution.
Bolton was a 19th-century boomtown and, at its zenith in 1929, its 216 cotton mills and 26 bleaching and dyeing works made it one of the largest and most productive centres of cotton spinning in the world.
The British cotton industry declined sharply after the First World War and, by the 1980s, cotton manufacture had virtually ceased in Bolton.
Close to the West Pennine Moors, Bolton is 10 miles (16 km) north-west of Manchester.
It is surrounded by several neighbouring towns and villages that together form the Metropolitan Borough of Bolton, of which Bolton is the administrative centre.
The town of Bolton has a population of 139,403, whilst the wider metropolitan borough has a population of 262,400.
Bolton originated as a small settlement in the moorland known as Bolton le Moors.
In the English Civil War, the town was a Parliamentarian outpost in a staunchly Royalist region and, as a result, was stormed by 3,000 Royalist troops led by Prince Rupert of the Rhine in 1644.
In what became known as the Bolton Massacre, 1,600 residents were killed and 700 were taken prisoner.
Bolton Wanderers football club play home games at the University of Bolton Stadium and the WBA World light-welterweight champion Amir Khan was born in the town.
Cultural interests include the Octagon Theatre and the Bolton Museum and Art Gallery, as well as one of the earliest public libraries established after the Public Libraries Act 1850.

Bad by Forever Jackson, No.1 UK Michael Jackson Tribute Show! 'Forever Jackson' is the ultimate tribute to Michael Jackson. A very entertaining replica of the real thing! Robin Parsons is a great singer, dancer and entertainer! My Adventure Planet
Awarded the 'No.1 UK Michael Jackson Tribute Show' at the 2013 UK National Tribute Awards (as voted for by the UK Agents Association) which no MJ show has won since, the show has become one of the most in-demand tributes in the country and Europe and is fast becoming the number one Michael Jackson show to see.
This was proven when MJ fans voted Forever Jackson in a 2017 poll on MJVibe.com as the No.2 show to watch in the world!
Robin Parsons pays true homage to the late great King Of Pop. Singing 100% live lead vocal, his voice replicates the distinctive tones of Jackson!
His dancing mirrors the legend in every detail, step for step right down to the smallest of mannerisms and his look (created through a two and a half hour process using ONLY theatrical make-up) is the exact image of MJ.
He has spent over half of his life studying Michael Jackson in meticulous detail to produce the closest complete likeness currently performing today.
Robin has been a long time fan and learnt to replicate Michael's abilities through a love of performing.
His dedication paid off in a big way when he got to live out a dream and performed for Michael Jackson in 2003 at his 45th Birthday show at the Orpheum Theatre in L.A....an honour only a very select few have experienced!
With wonderful touches of originality, visual extravagance throughout, this is truly a production for everyone. Ladies and gentlemen.......brace yourselves.......IT'S SHOWTIME!!!!
A truly wonderful live singer, live dancer and live entertainer!

Walking Through Oxford Street in London on a Busy Saturday Afternoon! Filmed on Saturday 16th October 2021. My Adventure Planet
Walking Tour of Oxford Street, London, England, UK
A crowded Oxford Street in central London.
Oxford Street is a major road in the City of Westminster in the West End of London, running from Tottenham Court Road to Marble Arch via Oxford Circus.
It is Europe's busiest shopping street, with around half a million daily visitors and as of 2012 had approximately 300 shops.
The road was originally part of the Via Trinobantina, a Roman road between Essex and Hampshire via London.
It was known as Tyburn Road through the Middle Ages when it was notorious for public hangings of prisoners at Tyburn Gallows.
It became known as Oxford Road and then Oxford Street in the 18th century and began to change from residential to commercial and retail use by the late 19th century, attracting street traders, confidence tricksters and prostitution.
The first department stores in the UK opened in the early 20th century, including Selfridges, John Lewis & Partners and HMV.
Unlike nearby shopping streets such as Bond Street, it has retained an element of downmarket trading alongside more prestigious retail stores.
The street suffered heavy bombing during World War II and several longstanding stores including John Lewis & Partners were completely destroyed and rebuilt from scratch.
Despite competition from other shopping centres such as Westfield Stratford City and the Brent Cross Shopping Centre, Oxford Street remains in high demand as a retail location, with several chains having their flagship stores on the street and has a number of listed buildings.
The annual switching on of Christmas lights by a celebrity has been a popular event since 1959.
As a popular retail area and main thoroughfare for London buses and taxis, Oxford Street has suffered from traffic congestion, pedestrian congestion, a poor safety record and pollution.
Oxford Street runs for approximately 1.2 miles (1.9 km) and is entirely within the City of Westminster. The road begins at St Giles Circus as a westward continuation of New Oxford Street, meeting Charing Cross Road, Tottenham Court Road (next to Tottenham Court Road station).
It runs past Rathbone Place, Wardour Street and Great Portland Street to Oxford Circus, where it meets Regent Street.
From there it continues past New Bond Street, Bond Street station and Vere Street, ending at Marble Arch. The route continues as Bayswater Road and Holland Park Avenue towards Shepherd's Bush.
The road is within the London Congestion Charging Zone. It is part of the A40, most of which is a trunk road running from London to Fishguard (via Oxford, Cheltenham, Brecon an
