Most of my students think this can’t work, but I have the success in my classrooms to prove this is an overlooked way to learn English. So today, I want to first, tell you 1. why this works wonders with my students. 2 How it will help you with natural English sentence building. And 3. Why it is the easiest way to add English to your daily life while you do other things. First, Why does this work well with my students? It’s simple. It is fun and easy. My students love listening to the stories that they already know from their native language and then hearing it in English is like listening for the first time. You get a new voice for each character and since you already know what happens in the story, you can listen for fun instead of working hard. Since it is fun and easy, my students get the benefit of daily practice for longer than the time they would normally study. They don’t think of English audiobooks as studying. They can just enjoy the story and get the added benefit of quickly becoming comfortable with listening to English. Second, Why will audiobooks work to help YOU with your listening skills and sentence building. The first is easy to see. You have to listen to the story to understand what is going on.
