Zero Books Podcast #98: A Red Worker from a Red State
Terry Tapp is a red worker from a red state. He’s also an artist and a writer. His book, "A Serf’s Journal: The Story of the United States’ Longest Wildcat Strike" is coming out from Zero Books in 2017.
Micah Uetricht of Jacobin Magazine blurbed the book this way:
Every day, millions of people grind their way through miserable work. And every day, a few of them decide the status quo cannot stand — they have to fight back. Very few of either of those stories ever get told, particularly by the heroic people who lived them. Terry Tapp does both in a tale of unbelievably miserable, dangerous work and courageous, fed-up workers up against incredibly tall odds. Anyone who has worked a terrible job should read it. Anyone who has dreamed about fighting back should study it.
C Derick Varn and Douglas Lain return to discuss the difference between united and popular front politics and what either approach would look like in the age of Sanders and Trump.

Did the 80s ever happen or is vaporwave the ghost of a past that never was? Are we doomed to mash up, distort and repeat, or has the crystallized moment called Neoliberalism shattered?
This video reexamines Grafton Tanner's theories on Vaporwave, reassesses Mark Fisher's Capitalist Realism, and considers the possibility that history has reasserted itself in the worst of ways.

In this live stream, Douglas Lain and Sean Sayers will discuss Sayer's critique of GA Cohen and the importance of Hegel in Marx's theoretical work.

Derick Varn and Douglas Lain discuss Marx's feelings about utopianism and blueprints in this episode of Pop the Left. Can we develop a working-class project for socialism without having a good idea of what socialism will work and what will replace capitalist production? Did Marx think we could?

Many believe that socialism is a struggle to overturn the market and that revolutionaries should attempt to deprogram the masses who have been suckered, brainwashed, and ultimately corrupted by cheap consumer goods. Zero Books Manifesto:
The modern world is at an impasse. Disasters scroll across our smartphone screens and we’re invited to like, follow or upvote, but critical thinking is harder and harder to find. Rather than connecting us in common struggle and debate, the internet has sped up and deepened a long-standing process of alienation and atomization.

The world's economy is headed for a massive crash and the left's understanding of economics is limiting its demands and imagination. We are living in a Disneyfied dream wherein we believe that capitalism's contradictions can be managed and that we can create a capitalism with a human face. This video takes a look at the present crisis with sober senses.
