The Pasco County Sheriff's Office released a video which showed a man with what they say are all the signs of an overdose. He had a strong pulse but wasn't breathing, pinpoint pupils, and he began turning blue in the face. The responding deputies administered Narcan, or naloxone hydrochloride. The drug essentially reverses an overdose. Within three minutes, the man became responsive. "Our main goal here is to save lives, to give a person another chance," said Corporal Sherryl Johnson-Tandy, who tracks the agency's Narcan use and provides deputies with training. The man in the video got another chance because the deputies carried Narcan on them. "2017 was the first year that Pasco County began to experience some of the consequences associated with the opioid crisis," said Captain Mike Jenkins.
The chemical agent has been deployed 65 times in Pasco County since March of 2017 to those who have overdosed on opioids. In 63 of those cases, Narcan revived the person. "This drug does not work if it's a cocaine-related," said Cpl. Johnson-Tandy. "It only works on opioids. Both of those had actual cocaine in their systems." More than 900 Pasco County employees are trained to use Narcan. More than 660 deputies carry rescue kits on them every day. "We recognize that we cannot arrest our way out of this problem," said Capt. Jenkins. "So, the deployment of Narcan is one of the strategies we are utilizing to address this issue." Narcan is a one-time use nasal spray or it can also be administered intravenously.

This video shows the suspect running from his car during a traffic stop, as well as a physical struggle with officers just a short distance away. Officers stopped the suspect because the car he was driving had a Department of Licensing flag indicating the registered owner had a suspended license. Officers also observed the suspect make an improper lane change. The below video includes dashcam of the suspect running from his car, and five separate body cam angles of the foot pursuit, the physical struggle with the suspect, and the officer-involved shooting. The video concludes with some footage slowed down and the suspect’s gun highlighted by a red circle. FIT detectives requested an ATF trace of the suspect’s handgun. A Washington Crime Information Center (WACIC) check revealed the suspect possessed a stolen handgun, originally taken during a 2016 car prowl in Renton.
FIT detectives released the following photos of the handgun and fully-loaded magazine. The suspect was carrying $1,160 in cash and a vial containing 263 pills with the code for oxycodone stamped on them at the time of his death. The pills tested positive for fentanyl and acetaminophen. The suspect’s car remains in the Seattle Police Processing Room. Detectives will search it pending a search warrant. FIT detectives interviewed and released the adult female passenger who was in the suspect’s car at the time of the traffic stop. FIT detectives have also interviewed the six officers present during this incident. Per SPD policy, the officer-involved in the shooting is on paid administrative leave. The involved officer was hired by SPD in September of 2015.

Atlanta Police moved quickly to save a 1-year-old girl accidentally locked in a hot car in a grocery store parking lot. And it was caught on camera. Officers decided to smash the window and free her. "I was communicating with her as much as I could through the window,” said Officer Andrew Gilchrease. “And she was calm. She's the rock star in all of this. She was calm. She didn't panic. I was just fortunate to be in a position to help someone that was in need." The girl was checked out and is OK. The child's grandmother, who locked her in the car, will not face charges because it was an accident.

Los Angeles police released graphic bodycam footage showing a police shooting in Van Nuys that left a knife-wielding suspect and an innocent bystander dead last month. The LAPD showed the graphic video during a press conference Tuesday morning. The footage was recorded on body-worn cameras from the officers involved in the incident. The incident occurred on June 16, when officers with LAPD's Van Nuys Division received a radio call about a man who had stabbed his ex-girlfriend with a knife, LAPD Chief Michel Moore said. Responding officers confronted Guillermo Perez outside of a church on Tyrone Avenue. Perez was holding a metal folding chair and a large knife, Moore said. Officers told him to drop the knife, but he ignored their commands. That's when police fired bean bag rounds at Perez, Moore said. "He moved away from officers and grabbed an innocent bystander who was standing nearby. Perez began to cut the innocent bystander's throat with a knife. That's when three officers shot at Perez to stop his actions and prevent him from killing the hostage," the chief said. Officers fired 18 rounds, and Perez was shot and killed. The innocent bystander, 49-year-old Elizabeth Tollison, was struck twice by police gunfire, and she later died at a hospital, Moore said.
Moore said there's much more work to be done in the investigation before he is able to provide recommendations on the actions of the officers involved. The investigation will look into whether proper procedures were followed. The chief said it's been 13 years since an officer's gunfire killed an innocent bystander or hostage. In the last six weeks, it's happened twice -- the most recent being the incident at a Trader Joe's market in Silver Lake, where a store manager was killed by police gunfire in a shootout between LAPD and a standoff suspect. "The life of the hostage is paramount and protecting that individual from the threat of the assailant, and in doing that, the balancing act that the officer has - is how to protect them by stopping the suspect's actions," Moore said. "This was a tense situation that unfolded very quickly. It's every officer's worst nightmare." Perez had a very violent past. He was released from prison and also convicted of robbery. He was a documented gang member who was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and domestic violence.

Charlotte, North Carolina - Two CMPD officers will not face charges for a March shooting that killed a man armed with shotgun that may have been experiencing a mental episode. District Attorney Andrew Murray released a 175 page report Thursday detailing his offices findings in the death of Iarsalov Mosiiuk. The release coincided with a previously scheduled hearing where Mosiiuk's family and social action group, Safe Coalition, requested the release of the body camera footage from the two officers involved. "We would like the full un-redacted copy of the body worn camera," said Lauren Newton, attorney for Mosiiuk's family. Mosiiuk's sister, Oleysa Tabaka sat behind her attorney in the courtroom. Tabaka has viewed the footage, but said it is important that is released to the public. "We'd like everyone to keep in mind that at the end of the day this was a mental health call, and if this is the way that mental health calls are handled, people will be afraid to call the police," said Newton. Tabaka said she called 911 for help after her brother threatened to kill himself and had gotten a hold of her fiance's gun.
According to the DA's report, Tabaka screamed at responding officers, “please don’t shoot him,” “don’t kill him,” “he’s just being crazy.” The investigation later determined the gun was loaded, but missing a bolt, rendering it inoperable. However, Michael Greene, the attorney representing Officer Brian Walsh, says his client had no choice but to fire what would be the fatal shot. "That gun doesn't have mental health issues, the person may have but he still has a firearm and if the family knew that my question would be why didn't they secure the weapon," he said. The DA's report included images from Officer Walsh's body cam. A person can be seen in the distance. Investigators say it was Mosiiuk with a long gun pointed at Walsh's partner, Officer Michael Dezenzo. 'He sees the deceased in an actual shooting position with the gun pointed towards his partner," said District Attorney Murray. "Him making sure that he neutralized the threat to protect his partner and the civilians and himself. A long gun that size would go through a vehicle quickly," he declared. The end of the criminal case, cleared the way for the release of the video to both the family and Safe Coalition.
CMPD says it will release the video also. "It there's no longer a pending investigation we will not object to release," said CMPD attorney Jessica Battle. Internal investigations are still pending. CMPD has not said if either responding officer received crisis intervention training to address mental health calls. However, Officer Dezenso's attorney, Daniel Roberts says his client, a 16-year veteran with CMPD is looking forward to continuing his career with the department. Roberts also says the video will show that Officer Walsh saved his client's life. "Mike Dezenso was very eager for the video being released so it could be shown what Officer Walsh did for him," he said. However, Mosiiuk's family says a call for help, didn't have to end like this. "Why this was handled the way it was when it was a mental health call to begin with," Newton declared.

Rock Island, Illinois — On March 31, 2021, local law enforcement received a social media video clip that depicted Deshawn Tatum waving a suspected firearm in Rock Island. Tatum is heard on the video making threats against law enforcement, and a white police SUV car is seen behind Tatum. At that same time, law enforcement were aware that Mr. Tatum had outstanding felony warrants, including a federal warrant for felon in possession of a firearm and a county warrant for criminal damage to property and fleeing & eluding.
On the following day, April 1, 2021, officers from the Rock Island Police Department were conducting surveillance hoping to apprehend Tatum on the outstanding warrants. Officers Lawler and Costas, both wearing body-worn cameras that were active, arrived at the Chippiannock Cemetery shortly after 6:15p.m on April 1st and observed Tatum standing with a group of people.
Lawler and Costas walked towards Tatum calling his name, and Tatum is seen running across the cemetery and dropping a black bag, which is picked up by Costas. Lawler and Costas both chase Tatum on foot across the cemetery, then west on 12th Street in Rock Island. Officers are heard yelling for Deshawn Tatum to “drop the gun” multiple times. A gun is later found lying on the ground in the path of the foot chase. An officer’s squad camera captures the moment Tatum runs by and throws the gun on the ground.
The foot pursuit to apprehend Tatum continued onto the next block until Tatum turned south towards the Chicken Shack gas station on 11th Street. A white Chrysler 300 is seen parked in front of the Chicken Shack and a female is opening the driver’s side door when surveillance captures Tatum push the female aside and get inside the driver’s seat. At that same time, Officer Scully, dressed in plain clothes and driving an unmarked car, drives into the gas station along with Officer Waddle in his squad.
Both officers exit their vehicles and run to the driver’s side with their weapons drawn and shout commands for Tatum to get out of the vehicle. Officer Lawler is seen approaching the vehicle from behind and walks to the passenger side with his gun drawn and yells for Tatum to get out. Both Waddle and Scully are seen trying to remove Tatum from the driver’s seat when the white car suddenly accelerates at a high rate of speed in reverse. Waddle and Scully are seen being dragged and appear under the driver’s side of the car when it ultimately collides into the gas station building with bricks landing on the trunk.
A gunshot is seen coming out of the passenger side window towards Officer Costas, who is standing outside of the vehicle, and Officer Scully and Lawler are seen firing at Tatum, who is still in the driver’s seat. Officers assist Waddle, who is picked up off the ground with blood coming down his face, and Scully reaches in the driver’s seat to retrieve a firearm— presumably Waddle’s duty weapon that he lost control of during the dragging and collision. Another officer arrives on scene and assists the officers in immediately giving CPR to Tatum, who has been brought to the ground next to the car. Officer Costas is assisting with CPR but can be seen stumbling and wiping blood off his face as well.
Within several minutes, a large crowd gathers at the scene and attempts to get in the officers’ way. Other officers arrive to assist with crowd control. Tatum is given CPR continuously for seven minutes until paramedics are able to get into the area and transport him to the hospital. Deshawn Tatum was transported to Unity Point/Trinity West and was pronounced deceased by Deputy Coroner Mark Moore shortly thereafter. All four officers involved were transported to Unity Point for medical evaluations and/or treatment and then placed on administrative leave.

Tampa, Florida — On July 17, 2023, responded to reports of a woman injured in a stabbing at N. 35th Street, off E. 18th Ave. When officers arrived, they found the woman suffering from 13 stab wounds. She was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. Police say the man, now identified as 33-year-old Michael Bresnahan, stabbed the mother of his children. At the time of the stabbing, their three children, all between the ages of two and six, witnessed the violent attack. After responding to the report, Tampa Police officers spotted the suspect vehicle. When Bresnahan, pointed an AK-47 at officers, they engaged in a pursuit.
Body-worn camera and aviation footage show the suspect failing to stop his vehicle, driving erratically, crashing through fences, and avoiding stop-sticks, before crashing into a car of innocent community members. Immediately after the crash, evidence indicates gunshots were fired from Bresnahan’s car. Eighteen Tampa Police Officers discharged their weapons in response, believing Bresnahan posed an ongoing threat of imminent danger to additional community members and police officers. Bresnahan appears to have died as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot; however, final autopsy results are pending. The involved officers are currently on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure. The adult female, who was stabbed thirteen (13) times, remains in the hospital and is currently listed in stable condition.
