Germany: an ‘occupied state’!
In an exclusive interview with RT on Tuesday, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said the US continues to "occupy" Germany by any scientific standard, while America's NATO allies have surrendered all their sovereignty to Washington and aren't allowed to have a say on issues like Nord Stream 2.
During German Chancellor Olaf Scholz's visit to Washington on Monday, Zakharova commented on US President Joe Biden's remarks about "shutting down" the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, pointing out that Berlin remains under Washington's control even after the Cold War ended.
"Germany remains, in one way or another, an occupied state, according to a lot of relevant features - this is neither mine nor Russia's perspective, this is according to political terminology and metrics,", she told RT.
"30,000 American troops are stationed there."
Zakharova continued, "American ambassadors to Germany, who are meant to be working there to promote bilateral relations, are delivering orders to German officials."
During Trump's administration, Richard Grenell, the US ambassador to Berlin, was "giving them directions literally every day on what to do on topics like Nord Stream 2."
According to Zakharova, the US treats Germany as if it were "just a protectorate," She added that this doesn't just come in the form of financial threats, but is "supported by 30,000 American boots on the ground."
"It's an issue for Germany to answer why Berlin allows itself to be treated this way, but "the fact is that it's not a partnership of equals," ", Zakharova added.
She explained that Washington's attempts to prevent Berlin from purchasing Russian natural gas through the Nord Stream 2 pipeline demonstrate a blatant disregard for German interests.
Germany needs this gas not because it likes Russia or wants to please us; it's what feeds their economy, it's a resource on which their industrial development depends, it's what they need to survive, fundamentally... a critical issue.
Instead, Washington is attempting to coerce Germany into purchasing US-produced liquefied natural gas (LNG).
According to the Russian spokeswoman, the price of American LNG is substantially higher, so the US instructed Germany to raise taxes on the people and make up the difference through subsidies.
What kind of free market are you referring to? Or the free economy, or the World Trade Organization?" she inquired, pointing out that this is effectively using energy as political leverage, which is exactly what the US has accused Russia of attempting to do.
The rest of Europe, in Zakharova's opinion, is no better off. She cited the US administration's directive to European NATO nations to spend 2% of their GDP on defense or face sanctions.
"And they talk to everyone
