We get an up-close look at the Traditions Nitro Fire "muzzle loading" rifle.
This is not a product endorsement and the NMLRA has not been compensated for this video. We feel it is our duty to inform the muzzleloading community of the new releases from the muzzleloading industry.
Please note: This rifle is not a breech-loader, the projectile is loaded from the muzzle and the charge is loaded from the breech. There is a lot of misinformation being spread about this.
We’re getting a lot of mixed reviews so far, many traditionalist muzzleloader shooters and hunters aren’t interested, but I don’t think this rifle is meant for them. After all, once you have a nice side lock, do you really shoot much else?
This rifle is for everyone out there who hunts with an inline and doesn’t want the fuss of loose powder, exposing more marksmen to the world of muzzleloaders.
There will always be innovation and progress in the world of firearms, I think it’s important to recognize the change and understand it’s not trying to snuff out traditional muzzleloading. In my opinion, these rifles have an important place in the industry as a means to educate marksmen on the world of muzzleloading.
So far there are no reports on the sustainability of the plastic cartridge from Federal, a concerning issue to many muzzleloaders conscious about sustainability and the environment. In our talk with Goex on the Muzzle Blasts Podcast, they spoke of how focused on the environment they are, so I’m hoping these plastic shells are reusable or recyclable at least.
Another concern I’m hearing on the forums is that there are worries about how this works with muzzleloading hunting seasons across the United States. Is the bullet being loaded from the muzzle enough to satisfy the definition of “Muzzleloader”? I think that’s yet to be said, but I don’t think Traditions, Hodgdon and Federal would bring a product to market without doing their research.

We're joined by Mike Beliveau to chat a bit about muzzleloading history, media and his own work in the field. Mike has been writing for Muzzleloader and Gun Digest Magazines for several years now, but you probably know him from his youtube channel "Duelist 1954". Mike was skeptical of making videos, but ever since his start in 2011-2012, it's become the thing he's most known for.
It was great to have Mike on, he talks not only about his own work, but his personal history in shooting sports, from tv shows as a kid to his first gun, competitive shooting, trekking and more. Mike has done it all over the years and I really enjoyed hearing about it, I think you will too.

A special thanks this week to the guys at Primitive Pursuit for sponsoring the podcast! Primitive Pursuit was founded in 2017 to be an outlet for learning experiences as a traditional bowhunter.
We couldn't have this conversation, the podcast or anything here at the NMLRA without the support of our members. Everything we do is made possible because of their generosity. Thank you.

Follow along as we run alongside this longhunter as he competes in the "Seneca Run". This 200 yard dash has five woods walk shots that you need to hit in less than 10 minutes or you are out.
Competitive muzzleloader shooting isn't all about standing on a covered line punching paper. At the NMLRA National Headquarters in Friendship Indiana, several of our matches keep you in shape.

We get a first-hand look at Pedersoli's new blackpowder target pistol. This pistol is an old European design, but is being newly manufactured by Davide Pedersoli in Italy and brought into Europe and the United States.
Pierangelo Pedersoli is excited to get this new target pistol into the hands of American competitive shooters and feels it can be a real contender in competition.

We are beginning a new series of courses at the NMLRA Education Center over the coming year. Our first new class was held with Jeff Luke of "Po Boy Gear".
In this first video in this new series, Jeff begins the class with some introductions to historic leather bags, their design and more.
Jeff has decades of leatherworking experience from wallets to motorcycle seats, but now has a passion for historically accurate bags and pouches from American History.

Last weekend we hosted our last 22 Fun Shoot of the season at our Walter Cline Range.
With perfect weather and 37 participants, we all had a great time plinking away at the various banks of reactive targets.
Special thanks to Mike Weissmann for hosting this event as well as bringing targets and prizes for the shooters
