Special: Volga-Dnepr Ilyushin Il-76 departing North Bay! (Apr. 18, 2017)
One of the more unique planespotting trips I've done and also my first time seeing a Soviet-built aircraft, this Volga-Dnepr Ilyushin Il-76TD-90VD departs North Bay (CYYB) for Mary River, Nunavut to transport mining equipment there. The contract calls for 20 round-trip flights between YYB and Mary River from the beginning of April.

Celebrating one month since leaving for Conference, I decided to compile a video of short highlights of cheerful events during the weekend! Honestly it has been one of the best things I have ever done in my life, even more enjoyable than the four-continent tour last year! Never before have I made so many friendships and learned so many things beneficial to life in such a short time. Since the things learned in conference is best experienced first hand, I encourage you to apply!
The Phoenix Leadership Conference, organized by the Phoenix Leadership Project (PLP), is a 4-day retreat where leadership delegates from anywhere in the world gather to learn new leadership skills along with making new friendships in a positive, welcoming, and natural environment. It took place at Camp Winnebagoe, a short distance from Huntsville, Ontario. There are three programs at PLP: Agents, which are for high school students starting out on leadership, Advocates (Advos) are for those with a bit of leadership experience, and Leaders in Training (LIT), which is for university-aged students (18-25) ready for a more intensive leadership experience, which is the program that I'm in. More unique is that PLP was actually founded by a close friend of mine who previously attended other leadership retreats by other organizations. The Phoenix Leadership Project can be found on both Instagram and Twitter @plpleaders.
To apply, check out phoenixleadershipproject.com/apply/ !
Following this video I will also be uploading more highlights from conference, this time without music!

The first extension to Toronto's Subway since 2002, the Toronto-York Spadina Subway Extension features 6 station across 8 km of track and crosses the municipal boundary to York Region for the first time. Service across the entire TTC network was free and event were held at all stations to celebrate the occasion. Construction of the extension began in late 2008 and features bored tunnels and expansive station architecture similar to Line 4 Sheppard Subway.

Welcome to my first flight of the decade! I'll be headed off to Montreal for a quick weekend trip where I will be trying out Air Canada's new Airbus A220 on the way back on Sunday! While in Montreal, I attended the Students in Mind Mental Health Conference that's run by students at McGill and that a close friend of mine works as a director for that event.
As I've filmed this aircraft before, and that I'll be trying out the A220, I didn't film as much as before, but just wanted to post the takeoff from runway 6L. We were treated to a beautiful sunset along the way, and with little to no turbulence, the crew were able to offer drinks where I chose an orange juice that was very tasty.
Stay tuned to my next video!

On 22-23 February 2023, I attended the Frayme Learning Institute as part of the Groundbreaker network. Frayme is an organization that partners with service providers to improve access to mental health resources nationwide. In our Learning Institute, we've had a multitude of mental health service providers display in an exhibition format, as well as presenters from them leading workshops, panelist sessions, and keynote speeches from key people who work in the field of mental health. Our theme was Great Big Stories, reflecting that a key part of mental health care is personal storytelling of lived experience and other kinds of experiences.
Our 2023 event was held in the Hyatt Regency in Vancouver, the first time that Frayme has ever had an event on the West Coast. Frayme is headquartered in Ottawa as a subsidiary of The Royal, a specialist mental health provider providing treatment to people with complex mental health conditions. The event has a lot of similarity to jack.org's National Jack Summit, the main difference with Frayme being more of an exhibition format and jack.org being more of a hands-on format in delivery. We very much enjoyed the fabulous evening receptions (two different events) on the first two days, as well as the amazing food and meeting new people there.
Stay tuned for the next Frayme Learning Institute on 21-22 February 2024, there will be a lot of exciting things coming!

Here is one of Auckland's new double deckers, this Alexander Dennis Enviro500 MMC was delivered in 2016 and operated by NZ Bus under the AT Metro brand. This bus features a lower height of 4.0 m instead of 4.3 m in order to fit in underpasses that have low clearances. Other operators of the lower height version are mostly in North America and include Ottawa's OC Transpo, Toronto's GO Transit, Strathcona County Transit, Seattle Sound Transit, Community Transit, and also Kuala Lumpur's rapidKL; an even lower height Enviro500 branded the SuperLo at 3.9 m is also produced for GO Transit, which I have filmed on my channel. Howick & Eastern is the second operator of these buses in Auckland, and since February 2016, these identical double deckers also operate in Wellington, New Zealand's capital, also operated by NZ Bus and thus feature a similar livery, and both Auckland and Wellington's Enviro500 have their body assembled locally in Tauranga by Kiwi Bus.
These double deckers are also the first to operate Auckland's downtown and central suburbs (City and Isthmus fare zones), as previously double deckers were mostly limited to services through the Auckland Harbour Bridge to the North Shore, the largest area of Auckland not covered by any train service.
Also in this video I included a little tour of Mount Eden. For the actual bus ride, skip to 01:19. This was filmed from around Bellevue/Mt. Eden Rd. until the terminus at Britomart.

Welcome aboard my first flight on the Airbus A220, originally the Bombardier CSeries! As you can see, this is definitely one of the best flights I've ever had, and despite the delay with the weather and maintenance we had an amazing crew which I also got a chance to photograph the cockpit as well!
This flight concludes my quick weekend travel to Montreal where I attended the Students in Mind Mental Health Conference on Saturday that's run by students at McGill, and that a close friend of mine works as a director for that event. I came to Montreal on Friday on Air Transat's A321neo, which is also a really cool aircraft!
The Airbus A220, originally developed by Bombardier as the CSeries, is a revolutionary new single-aisle aircraft type that incorporates many new technologies, like a composite airframe, geared turbofan engines, large windows, advanced avionics, and much more. The cabin design is distinctive as it features large windows, large overhead bins, and a 5-abreast economy cabin that features wider than average seats compared to other aircraft types. After a trade dispute between Bombardier and Boeing in 2017, Bombardier sought a partnership with Airbus which took a slight majority ownership in the program, and thus rebranded as the Airbus A220 in July 2018. Air Canada has 45 on order, the first of which was delivered in December and entered service just a few days ago on 16 January, between Montreal and Calgary. It will replace many older single-aisle aircraft, like the Embraer 190, and older Airbus A319 and A320.
This is a quick review of the main points of the flight and cabin features, and while it is not the inaugural service, it is the first time that this aircraft has operated commercially into Toronto. Two new routes will be launched with this aircraft in May, which includes Montreal to Seattle, and Toronto to San Jose (California). I have also filmed the full flight from beginning to end, and I'll hopefully post that soon as there's a lot to see during the flight!
As you can see, the weather was quite bad with a heavy snowstorm rolling through. Our flight ended up being delayed by two hours, and we were given food vouchers as compensation. There was also a group tour headed to Barbados, and because of the delay, that meant a very tight connection for them so the crew asked them to disembark the aircraft first before others.
Air Canada's frequent flights between Montreal and Toronto is sometimes branded as "Rapidair", and is the busiest flight route in the country.

Welcome to my first transit video from my visit to London this year! Here is one of the few new additions to the transport network in London since I left London last May 2018, this being the new TfL Rail service between Paddington and Heathrow T4. This change means Oyster cards can be used on this line, as opposed to the former Heathrow Connect where Oyster cannot be used and that it had more expensive fares. This is a wonderful relief from the overcrowded Piccadilly line which used to be the only way to Heathrow by Oyster.
Although drawn on the map as one single branch, this service actually has three branches, one from Paddington to Hayes & Harlington (skipping Hanwell) using Class 345, the other from Paddington to Heathrow T4 (skipping Acton Main Line) using Class 360 which are the ex-Heathrow Connect units, and another between Heathrow T2/3 and T4, also using Class 360. This arrangement was made because the Class 345 has not been approved to run into Heathrow tunnels yet due to software issues, necessitating the continued use of the Class 360. This service (started on 20 May 2018), along with the Liverpool Street to Shenfield service which I filmed last year, will become part of the new Crossrail Elizabeth Line which was supposed to open in December 2018 but was delayed somewhere into 2020 due to multiple engineering problems with the main tunnels under central London. TfL services to Reading will start in December 2019 before the Crossrail tunnels open.
This is the 2147 service as 9T68 from Paddington arriving at Hayes & Harlington at 2207. A bit of train spotting at Hayes is included at the end after the ride.

Going back into May this year, this was my first ride on the South Island Line, the newest line of Hong Kong's Mass Transit Railway (MTR). This is the full route between Admiralty and South Horizons, filmed on Changchun CNR S-Train (C6554-12E) set A513/514. Opened on 28 December 2016, this is the first fully automated line in the MTR, excluding the Disneyland Resort Line where it uses converted trains and that they still have the driver cab.

A historic moment at Montreal's Pierre-Trudeau Airport today, here's the very first Airbus A350 XWB landing and departing YUL. The weather was sunny but very cold and windy, making it challenging to film.
This video not only shows the first A350 and the first LH new livery at YUL, but also sets a few other firsts for me as well:
*First time seeing an A350 with new winglets (after around line number 200)
*First time seeing Lufthansa's new livery
*First time seeing the A350 in eastern Canada
*First time seeing an inaugural visit of a brand-new aircraft type at any airport
For the takeoff as LH475, skip to 02:54.
