A caricature is a picture, description, or imitation of a person in which certain striking characteristics are exaggerated in order to create a comic effect. There should be no rule that governs what a caricature looks like. Some cartoonists create rules and even suggest measurements and such but everyone else has his own ideas. What is important is that it is a very expressive art and, to me, should be taken into higher regard than that of a picturesque portrait. Remember that not everyone is fond of his caricature so draw them at your own risk. Politicians and celebrities are favorite targets of lampooned drawings, mostly to mock them. People who are willing to sit in front of a cartoonist for a caricature of themselves have great sense of humor and they could very well be your best clients.
