Once a Marxist, now a fully paid-up libertarian and peer of the realm, my guest today is no stranger to controversy. Claire Fox — Baroness Fox of Buckley — was for 20 years a member of the Revolutionary Communist Party and became something of a media star on the back of the group’s hugely unpopular and uncompromising position on the Provisional IRA. She’s never exactly apologised — attracting fresh flak on her appointment to the Lords last year — and she also rattled the bars of the Establishment cage when in 2019 she stood for Nigel Farage’s Brexit Party in the European elections, ending up as a list MEP in the process. Never one to keep her counsel, she’s already spoken in the Lords multiple times and brings her overarching belief in freedom of choice to all aspects of the Covid debate — including the care home mandate and vaccination passports.
