Hijacking the Scriptures Part II: The Romans 9 Debate - Rightly Dividing the Word?
I continue with my review of James' debate with Prof. Leighton Flowers on Romans 9. The new narrative gets fully formed today and we see further insight into how far the method will go to misrepresent core concepts of Calvinism let alone the mishandling of scripture that leads to it.
Two hour long program today that is really two very different programs. First hour Michael Brown joins me via Skype to talk about his new book, Playing with Holy Fire. I had been on Michael’s program last week on the same topic. Then, after an hour, we moved on to the discussion prompted by the death this past weekend of Dr. James H. Cone, one of the authors of Black Liberation Theology. Visit the store at https://doctrineandlife.co/
Pastor Jason Robinson from West Virginia joined us on the program today to offer competing (and conflicting!) interpretations of this key soteriological text. 30 minutes of exegesis then 30 minutes of cross-ex, with ten minutes of closing statements. We developed connection issues during the cross-examination and had to go to the phone to finish things up. Jeff Durbin joined me after the debate to discuss some of the issues raised in the program. In light of recent events in Israel we took the first 55 minutes or so of the program to review issues in Islam, looking at the Qur'an and hadith to understand the animus Islam produces toward the Jews. It's been quite a while since we did any in-depth discussion of Islam, so I provided a lot of basic explanations of terms, etc. Then we moved to the events of Saturday and our 40th anniversary celebration. I played a video, and then looked at some of the pictures from our slideshow, taking a walk down memory lane. Old folks like doing things like that.

Spent a little time on the Pope, most of the time on the #ShoutYourAbortion debauchery, and then a call from Chris Arnzen…all on today’s Dividing Line!

Last live DL at least for me for a while (unless we can hook up while I am back east with a solid connection). First made some comments on the recent "Francis and Evolution" stuff coming out of Rome. Then got back to Brian Zahnd's opening comments in the Calvinism debate, and got within I would say about a minute of finishing them up. But, I was feeling a bit tired today, and hence was easily distracted by (and yes, a few times, annoyed by) my Twitter feed, once again! Sorry about that! Seems to happen when I'm doing a lot of traveling and trying to catch up!

Started off with a few minutes on another example of how fear and panic has molded the minds of people in the West since the beginning of 2020, and then transitioned into some more in-depth discussion about God's decree and His knowledge. This then allowed us to talk about the concept of "middle knowledge" and its role in the Counter-Reformation, and in synergism to this day.

Wanted to get a second program in this week as I leave tomorrow for ministry in Florida (including the debate on homosexuality). Was going to open the phones but instead ended up responding to two articles in rebuttal to the Statement, first from Union Theological Seminary, the second http://ryanburtonking.blogspot.com/2018/09/why-i-cannot-and-will-not-sign-social.html from a Reformed Baptist pastor in London, pastor Ryan Burton King. Hopefully helpful clarifications in the ongoing discussion. Visit the store at https://doctrineandlife.co/
