I hear a lot about friend-enemy distinction and how it ought to be used as test politically. The issue is I never get a straight answer as to what it means to be a friend. Many on the DR argue metaphysics is meaningless and to just act! So we are to use a test in which the terms are not defined? It self a metaphysical act? That won't do. Some who are more traditional or Christian will offer their takes. The problem is they are often intra-subjective and not easily universalizable. I will not come up with a new definition for friend, but use an old one, I will appeal to Aristotle and his definition of friendship. Having defining what a friend is, I will then explore how using Aristotle's definition of friend as a rubric would work.
