Although arc flashes hazards on direct current (DC) systems are just as real, they are often minimized or even ignored. Not only is it unrealistic to assume it is enough to take into account the incident energy in AC systems when assessing arc flash hazards, this in itself can be hazardous. For example, for a distribution panel that is fed by a battery room with a nominal capacity of 1000 ah, the level of calculated incident energy for the battery terminals would be 18 cal/cm². This high value requires protection with anti-arc coveralls for a standard work distance of 46 cm (18 inches). That’s why assessing arc flashes for DC systems is just as important to ensure worker safety.

Back in July while I was at the factory, I noticed this extension lead and thought it best to steal it, err.. I mean, safely remove it from site.
It had literally just been tested as the PAT was a week ahead of our inspection work during the same shutdown.
The PAT testing was rushed and some common observations were not made on equipment, including this one.

Another example of arc flash.
Is turning off the supply too inconvenient?
Have you carried out risks assessments and considered arc flash?
Do you understand working boundaries and incident energy levels?
Have you worked live regularly before and never seen this happen?
Is there an attitude of 'having done this a hundred times before' or 'it's only going to take a few seconds so PPE isn't necessary'..
A lot of people learn about the dangers of arc flash after its too late.
There are different attitudes and approaches to what the risks are of an AF and how we're supposed to mitigate these risks - so it's time to stop for a moment and think.

I've had some requests to create videos on different training courses, many being the 2391-52.
My apologies for the delay in getting something started.
This video details the outcome requirements which your assessments are placed against. This is a video for the first outcome, the other outcomes will be up soon.
