As the Kenworth model line was expanded, the W900 became its flagship conventional, with its cab structure used across other model families; the model line competed against a wide variety of model lines through its production. Go watch it with the link below or in the end card after this one! Later I am going to review a DCP by First Gear Pete 352 COE with Reefer trailer. Now what is a Refrigerated trailer? Unlike a dry van trailer, a Refrigerated trailer is just as the name promises: Refrigerated. These are insulated trailers with a refrigeration unit on the front (nose of the trailer). Refrigerated trailers today are generally standard 48’ or 53’ dry van trailers, but there are a few important differences: 1. The walls, ceiling, and floors are made of metal or fiberglass, never wood. This not only improves insulation, but it prevents the floors and walls from absorbing odors from product. 2. Refrigerated trailers are heavier. The maximum loadable weight for a 53’ refrigerated trailer is 43,500 lbs. 3. Refrigerated trailers are typically newer. Refrigeration units burn out after a few years of continuous work, and carriers typically must replace trailers every three to five years. What type of freight ships in refrigerated trailers? More than just food is transported in refrigerated trailers. Any product that can be damaged by high or low temperatures is shipped in refrigerated trailers. These products include: • Pharmaceuticals • Hazardous materials • Bulk liquids • Chewing gum • Paint • Perishable and frozen foods • Along with a whole host of other products Though reefers are often used to maintain cooler temperatures, they are also used to heat air. In the winter, shippers use reefers to protect temperature-sensitive products from freezing. Refrigerated trailers are actually not intended to cool products, but to maintain the specific temperature required to keep the product from spoiling. The products and trailer must be at the same temperature at the time of loading, or the chance of spoiling is greatly increased. Many shippers won’t even load a trailer that isn’t at the specified temperature. The three main components of a refrigeration unit are the: 1. Evaporator coil 2. Compressor (which powers the evaporator coil) 3. Small diesel engine (which powers the compressor) How a refrigerated trailer works. The process of refrigeration in truck trailers is not the addition of cold air, but the removal of heat from the air inside the trailer. That makes sense as a reefer trailer isn’t designed to cool a product, only to keep the cold product cold. Refrigeration for truck trailers is more complicated than air conditioners for buildings. The outside air pressure and air temperature is constantly changing as the trailer is moved from place to place, whereas a building is stationary and only has to fight gradual air temperature changes around the building. Garbage would cover the city streets and county roads. Garbage everywhere. Just imagine the amount of garbage that would pile up if someone did not pick it up and carry it to the dump. Hi, I am Logan the 64th Gear Jammer Skeele, and this is another episode of Toy Talk. Today’s episode is about Garbage…. that is one garbage company. First Gear just released two versions of Waste Management Garbage trucks in 1/87th Scale. (For more background on garbage trucks please see my video on the origin of garbage trucks. You can find it by clicking on the link below). Waste Management, or currently known as WM, has a colorful history. Always ready to clean up America, WM’s goal is to provide the best service possible. It started in 1893 in Chicago when a Dutch immigrant named Harm Huizenga began collecting garbage for a small fee. Over the years Harm gathered a sizeable clientele. His first vehicle was a wagon. A rapidly changing society presented a continued challenge to Harm. But Harm met each challenge head on. The biggest challenge came after the world wars that took all the waste providers by surprise. That was manufacturing’s move to disposable products. A wonderful idea. But wonderful Ideas often have dire consequences. That was well and good for the people, it was supposed to make life simpler, but it provided more trash to haul. To keep up with the new influx of trash, Harm's grandson Wayne Huizenga and two other investors, Dean Buntrock and Larry Beck, had a vision. That was to serve their community by properly managing the waste produced by a rapidly growing population. In the years 1968 to 1970 America became more environmentally aware. Waste Management was ahead of the curve. WM was already professionally and responsibly disposing of waste. By 1982 WM had become the world’s largest waste disposal company, with more than $1 billion in sales. Collecting waste, responsibly managing landfills, and first to recognize the recycling movement. WM built recycling centers and recovered metal and other materials to sell to various industries. My good friend Simon Rogers from Down Under has created and sent me some really cool parts packs for our model trucks and I want to talk about them. These packs will really help you dress up your toy trucks. But first I want to start off with why Simon Rogers of Tuff Trucks decided to make them. To do that, I will just use Simon’s own words! To quote Simon, “I guess really it comes down to wanting custom parts to help people be able to custom a truck up to make them more Australian, but with that said some of the parts are USA, like the roof turbo wing, and Texas bar/bumper. And of course, the fuel tanks. It does not matter what country we need those. The kit was more aimed at the W900A with bullbar being able to be swapped out with bumper.
