Bodycam Shows Suspect Ramming Into Patrol Cars Before Police Shooting
* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) * Las Vegas, Nevada — The Nevada Highway Patrol released body-worn and dashcam video from an officer-involved shooting at Red Rock Canyon last week. According to NHP, on Nov. 11. shortly before 6 a.m they received a call from the mother of the suspect 29-year-old Erik Legried. She told police her son was going to shoot himself or drive head-on into upcoming traffic to kill himself in his black 2021 Toyota Tacoma. Legried drove through a campsite at Red Rock National Conservation Area before leading law enforcement into the visitors center parking lot. Troopers blocked him in, but he rammed their cars to get away. Eventually, another officer rammed his truck from the side. Airbags than deploy, and Legried starts driving away. Officers then start shooting, and the truck stops a few seconds later. NHP says troopers couldn't see into the truck due to the deployed airbags and couldn't tell if he had a weapon. Two troopers and a Bureau of Land Management ranger shot Legried four times in his thighs. No weapons were found in his truck, according to NHP. No officers were injured during the shooting. Legried is expected to recover and face several charges, including battery of a protected person, resisting a public officer, and damaging or destroying state property. Both of the NHP troopers involved have been placed on paid administrative leave while the incident is under investigation. Legried is due back in court on Nov. 30 at 9:30 a.m.

Las Vegas, Nevada — The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department released body camera footage from the officer-involved shooting that occurred August 10, 2020 in the 3700 block of North Nellis Boulevard. Patrol officers at the Northeast Area Command were notified in a morning briefing that 32-year-old Joshua Squires was being sought in connection with an arson investigation from earlier in the evening. It was known to officers that Squires lived in a mobile home located at 3755 North Nellis Boulevard. Officer Cabrera went to the mobile home park and was driving through when he observed Squires walking. Squires immediately fled on foot and Officer Cabrera initiated a foot pursuit. As they were running, Officer Cabrera observed Squires with a handgun and gave verbal commands not to point it at him. During the foot pursuit, Squires turned towards the officer and pointed the handgun at him. Officer Cabrera then fired one round missing Squires.
Officer Cabrera backed off and lost sight of Squires after he jumped a wall. Information was received that Squires had returned to the mobile home where he was staying and Crisis Negotiators and SWAT responded. Negotiators contacted a female inside of the mobile home who stated she was Squires’s mother. She stated he was armed and would not allow her to leave. Other family members who were able to get out of the mobile home told officers that Squires was threatening to set the trailer on fire. A hostage rescue plan was put in place and distracts were deployed as Swat Officers entered through a sliding glass door. As they entered, Officer Goodrich observed Squires pointing a handgun at him. Officer Goodrich fired several rounds striking Squires. A tactical medic tended to Squires and pronounced him deceased at the scene. The hostage did not sustain any injuries during the rescue.

Huntsville, Alabama — The Huntsville Police Department (HPD) released body-worn camera footage of the officer-involved fatal shooting of Crystal Ragland. In May 2019, Crystal Ragland was shot by officers after residents say she was pointing a gun at people from inside her apartment. Two weeks ago, a federal judge dismissed the wrongful death suit filed in this case by Ragland’s sister Brandie Robinson. The wrongful death lawsuit was filed in May 2021. It claims that HPD officers used excessive, unconstitutional force during Ragland’s shooting death. A federal court ordered the City of Huntsville to release the body camera footage for this incident following the lawsuit’s dismissal.

Officers were called to the home on East Empire Street for reports that a person was trapped inside on Feb. 18. Officers first checked the front of the home and were met with nothing but smoke and flames. Officer Jonathan Brown was running out of options when he made the decision to check inside a side door, according to the Grass Valley Police Chief Alex Gammelgard. That’s when he found the man, identified in the video as Corey, who lived there inside, on the ground.
The officer is heard shouting the man's name, and kicking in a side door where he found Corey unconscious on the ground. He grabbed Corey's feet and dragged him out of the house "I got him," the officer is heard saying on the video. "Go get a medic!". Five people, three juveniles and two adults, were taken into custody early Monday morning, Feb. 19 following a police pursuit by Greenfield police involving a stolen vehicle. The pursuit ended after the vehicle crashed into a home on Milwaukee’s south side. According to authorities, just after 4:30 a.m., a witness called police to report theft from vehicles in the area of 34th and Francis. When officers arrived on the scene, the suspects ran to a waiting vehicle — and the pursuit was underway. A PIT maneuver was initiated near 13th St. and Ohio Ave. After several attempts by officers, one finally connected. “Had the driver given up at that point, the vehicle would have come to rest. Instead, we believe she accelerated away and performed some steering maneuvers which caused her to crash into a house,” said Sgt. Robert Austin of the Greenfield Police Department. The car landed on the front steps of a home. The collision caused broken windows, cracked front steps and destroyed the garden at the home. The homeowner, her husband and her 1-month-old child were inside at the time of the wreck. For safety reasons, she did not wish to be identified.
“Woke up with the baby, walked out of the room, heard those sirens, and heard the big bang. I got really scared,” the homeowner said. Not long after, police arrested the car’s occupants. Their ages range from 15 to 18 years old. Police also said the vehicle involved in the pursuit was stolen and also had plates from another vehicle on it. The homeowner told that the shooting happened outside of her home a few months ago. For her, this was the last straw. “Hopefully patch everything up and try to see if I can sell the house. I’m ready to go somewhere else safer,” the homeowner said. Nobody inside was hurt. Police said five people were taken into custody. Three were taken to the hospital. Three of the five suspects apparently had run-ins with police before — both cases involving stolen cars.

Las Vegas, Nevada — On September 10, 2022, at approximately 1:13 a.m., a marked patrol unit conducted a vehicle stop in the 3900 block of University Center Drive for a traffic infraction. During the stop, the three occupants were asked to get out of the vehicle and walk to the front of the patrol SUV. All three occupants complied until one of the males, later identified as 27-year-old Gabriel Charles, fled on foot. The two other occupants were detained by the second officer and Officer Tierney Tomburo initiated a foot pursuit on Charles.
During the short foot pursuit, Charles pulled out a handgun and fired at Officer Tomburo striking her one time in the hip. Officer Tomburo fell to the ground and returned fire striking Charles. Additional officers arrived on scene and performed a downed officer rescue and transported Officer Tomburo to UMC Trauma. Charles was taken into custody and transported to Sunrise Trauma where he succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the vehicle was later arrested for suspicion of DUI. The rear passenger was released from custody.
Officer Tomburo was taken to University Medical Center and is currently recovering at home.

Thurston County, Washington — On March 6, 2024, at around 8:00 a.m., Thurston County deputies conducted a traffic stop off Rich Rd SE. The passenger exited the vehicle, and the driver, 29-year-old gave a false name. The driver fled, and deputies established reasonable suspicion for DUI and a pursuit was authorized. The truck fled through Lacey, and then onto the Chehalis Western trail at speeds of more than 60mph. Citizens on the trail were able to see and hear the lights and sirens and get out of the way. The truck then exited onto 26th Ave NE where a PIT maneuver was successful. The truck spun around into a mud field, then accelerated into reverse into a private driveway where he struck an unoccupied travel trailer. A deputy quickly pinned the truck in as it was still trying to flee. The driver was combative and refused to show his hands or surrender. The vehicle window was broken out and a taser was deployed as the driver had the truck in drive and the wheels spinning trying to flee.
The suspect was forcefully removed from the truck and detained. Drug paraphernalia was located in the truck. At the end of the pursuit, the suspect caused a low impact collision between two uninvolved motorists trying to get out of his way. Those victims are being evaluated, but appear to be okay. The driver had an active warrant out of Thurston Superior Court for attempting to elude, assault on law enforcement with a deadly weapon, and possession of a stolen vehicle. He has been arrested for new charges which include another attempt to elude and DUI narcotics. The vehicle the man was driving had extensive history with prior eluding as recent as last week where a different man who was a convicted felon and known to steal cars was arrested out of it in possession of a gun. That individual is already back out of TCSO jail despite having been booked 14 times in TCSO jail alone with numerous pending cases in Superior Court.
