Hello Everyone, I hope you are well. I rarely use the word hate, but when it comes to bad leadership, I cannot think of a sentiment that more accurately reflects the disdain I have for poor and absentee leadership. As a young man, I starved for good leadership, and I would go where others seemed to be getting it from, but I guess my standards for leadership are based on more than who signs my paycheck. It was difficult for me to find good leadership, though there were a couple of exceptions that contributed much to my early understanding of people and leadership, and I will always be grateful for those people in my life. When I wanted to point out poor leadership, I was discouraged from doing so, or if I was encouraged to do something about poor leadership, I was often the only one doing it. No one wanted to risk their stability. Having failed many times at my own attempts at it, I have come to some observations about leadership that may not be so apparent or even contradictory to what is currently accepted about what good leadership is today. Hello, I hope you are well and happy. Happy? What is it really? Are you happy? How do you define happy? What makes you happy? Have you ever pondered what happiness really is, what it means to you, & what you can do to be happy? Happiness is a subjective state in which we have a feeling of elation & comfort that feels natural & spontaneous; I think that is how I would define happiness, how do you define it for yourself? I was described as a happy baby. Smiling all the time, extraordinarily little fuss or crying, so much so, the pediatrician suggested that I be tested to see if I was retarded. Imagine that, so happy, they figured something must be wrong with me! There are so many things that steer our mind away from being happy in this world in which we live, in fact, most of the world currently operates in a way which feels like it is designed on purpose to make us miserable, & it may be, who knows? Those ideas & questions rarely lead to happiness though, so I cannot say I spend much time on thinking about who or what may be trying to prevent my happiness. Happiness & attitude are intricately linked. I guess you could say one develops an attitude of happiness for themselves, they have a choice as to how they want to experience life, regardless of what is happening around them, when one adopts an attitude of happiness. Attitude is the mental fuel in which we start our day with. If we are focused on the gratitude of the people, experiences, & things we have in our life, have a clear idea of what we want for ourselves, including written goals, & are willing to put forth the service & work needed to bring fulfillment to our lives, then happiness is a natural outcome. Happiness is not a permanent state, thank God! Imagine how miserable it would be to be happy all the time; without the contrast of the challenges within our lives, we would have no idea what it was to be happy; worse, what reason would we have to strive for anything? Isn’t it when we accomplish what was difficult for us that we feel the greatest senses of happiness? Many of us have been through difficult times, particularly when we were young, which felt threatening or created a certain amount of pain, both physical and emotional, which we were forced to survive through. Many of us watched our parents work out the pains they learned in their childhood & we learned those things as ways of life, & replay/re-act them today as matter of fact. Remember the smiling happy baby that was so happy, it was suspected I might be retarded? That baby then went on to learn & believe all kinds of incorrect ideas & limiting beliefs.
