Two Russian naval ships docked at the Venezuelan port of La Guaira, near the capital Caracas on Tuesday. The ships, the Soviet Union Fleet Admiral Gorshkov frigate and the medium maritime oil tanker Akademik Pashin, arrived in the afternoon and were welcomed by top Venezuelan naval officials, and Russian Ambassador to Venezuela Sergei Melik-Bagdasarov. Footage showed Russian sailors aboard the frigate standing in military formation, as the Russian and Venezuelan national anthems played These ships visited Venezuela after conducting exercises in the Atlantic Ocean, and a visit to Cuba, which Moscow stated were intended to ‘show the flag.’
