Wow that was unexpected. So this was from my second time recording Bob Motz worlds fastest jet semi (in the quarter mile) at the National Trail Raceway Night of Thunder event. I always got pretty excited to go record this big rig making insanely fast passes down the drag strip, and this time was no different. It's really intense being so close to the semi as it spools its jet engines up and flares the afterburners for the crowd. This time ended a little bit different though as you will be able to see at the end. As he leaves the line he looks like he's having some sort of problem with the jet engine and it keeps popping and flaming as he goes down the strip until something behind the veil of smoke booms.
Night of Thunder is one of the biggest yearly events at National Trail Raceway. They have many different classes racing that night with several exhibition classes meant to put on a huge show for the crowds.
National Trail Raceway is an NHRA member track that began life back in 1964. The complex sits on 320 acres, and back when it was built it was the fifth largest track of its kind in the united states. It plays host to a number of very popular events every year, some of them being Night of Thunder, the Mopar Nationals, Import Face-Off, and Jegs ET Series.
Here at RPM Army on YouTube we focus on local motorsports events. The goal is to provide the best local coverage of racing events in the central Ohio area.
