Tito Mboweni's South African Budget Bamboozle, 2021 edition
South Africa's Finance Minister Tito Mboweni delivered his lame annual budget speech on 24 Feb 2021 with tax increases on wages, alcohol and tobacco in a clear insult to working South Africans. His welfare grant proposal also left those hungry for handouts wanting too. He failed to mention massive state bailouts YET AGAIN for bankrupt South African Airways and electricity parastatal Eskom. Opposition parties and COSATU (a major labor union) are very unhappy.
As armed insurrections sprout in various metropolitan areas around the US, our political leaders at local, state and federal level are either COMPLICIT or noticeably silent or absent, save President Donald Trump. As we approach our Independence Day on July 4th, 2020, this madness must be put to an end. VERY few sitting political officials deserve to return to office after the November elections, assuming there is still a republic to hold office in come January.

Day two of South #Africa's 21 day nationwide #lockdown in response to the #Wuhan #corona #virus, #COVID-19, with authorities in #Pretoria reporting that the vast majority of South Africans are abiding by the lockdown. But, as with anything, there are always those who choose to do their own thing. Security forces arrested 55 today who violated the lockdown.
In Kenya police fired tear gas to disperse people at a ferry in #Mombasa. #Lesotho began its own 21 day lockdown today, #Zambia starts on Sunday and now #Zimbabwe has also announced it will follow suit on Monday, 30 Mar 2020. It cannot be much longer that #Botswana holds out. Although #Gaborone has no confirmed cases of the virus, it too will eventually have confirmed cases in this #pandemic.
