DAB - Sword of Ayutthaya (DAB NARESUAN) Free Flow Handling
Free flow Thai sword handling with elements and techniques from the famous but almost forgotten DAB NARESUAN style, also known as "Sword of Ayutthaya". The sword used in this video is made from solid steel with a wooden grip. It weighs 0,8 Kilograms.
Ancient swordsmen and swordswomen who fought with this method were usually not members of the regular army (who often received only basic training) but paramilitary organized free warriors (PAHUYUTH), who were asked on behalf of King Naresuan (1555/56-1605 AD) to defend the country and to fulfill special operations.
DAB (Sword) is an armed PAHUYUTH discipline, that deals with the art of sword fighting.
DAB and other PAHUYUTH weapon fighting methods were used on ancient battlefields and should not be confused with Krabi Krabong, which was invented much later (under King Rama II, 1767-1824 A.D.) with the clear intention of "entertainment, sport and presentation" in mind.

MIED (Knife) is an armed Pahuyuth discipline, that deals with the art of Thai knife fighting.
Only few things are known about ancient Thai knife fighters, since they used to remain in the shadows and often fought concealed in enemy territory. Since it is rather uncommon for MIED practicioners to carry any kind of weapon with them, they have a strong connection to using their opponents weapons to their advantage. With knife-fighting as a starting point, MIED students often follow the path of AWUD (general weapons or armed Pahuyuth), by subsequently adding knowledge about sword-, staff-, shield- and cloth-fighting to their personal skillsets. This enables them to fight with and against any kind of melee weapon or to instantly turn random items from their surrounding into improvised weaponry. Today MIED is taught for self-defense purposes and for the preservation of cultural heritage.

This video shows a MEED (knife) / LING LOM (unarmed combat) demonstration for the Loy Kratong festival in Berlin 1995. It tells the story of an unnecessary conflict that begins with mocking, turns into a knife fight, escalates to two bystanders and eventually leads up to the death of one of the participants. Since minors were present at the event we kept the level of violence as little as possible and tried to make the grim topic of traditional knife fighting or knife attacks somehow enjoyable for the audience.
=============================
About MEED:
=============================
MEED (knife) is traditional armed combat with forearm-length objects such as knives, axes or sickles. Only a few things are known about the ancient Pahuyuth knife warriors, as they preferred to move in the shadows and operated covertly behind enemy lines. They often carried only simple hand or tool knives, which enabled them to infiltrate enemy positions and defeat the enemy from the inside. The specialty of MEED is to turn the opponent’s weapons him him or use random objects from the environment as improvised weapons. For this reason, MEED-warriors in civilian life are usually unarmed, which is also part of their traditionally handed-down shadow warrior codex.
=============================
About LING LOM:
=============================
LING LOM is an unarmed Pahuyuth using all of the capabilities the human body and the origin of all Thai martial arts. The origins of the LING LOM date back to the time of the Gleeh tribes (Gleeh Gauw Pienohng), which who lived around 2500 BC. in the Altai Mountains (today’s China). First described by the Chinese as a kind of „wraith fight“, it was later called LING LOM (monkey-air or air-monkey) due to its elusive character and unusual movements. The name stuck and led to the widespread misconception that LING LOM was created by the imitation of animals or was related to Chinese fighting styles (monkeys Kung Fu, monkey fist, etc.). In fact, LING LOM is based exclusively on the natural abilities and conditions of the human body. LING LOM has been used on the battlefields of Southeast Asia for many centuries. Legends tell of warriors who swept across the battlefield “like the wind” and even fought between the legs of war elephants. Around 1000 A.D., LING LOM became the origin of all Thai stand-up fighting methods. Traces of LING LOM can still be found today in many other Southeast Asian fighting styles. LING LOM is considered one of the most difficult to learn combat disciplines of Pahuyuth. Beginners undergo a rigorous physical training and gradually acquire the traditional principles and concepts of the system teaching (Tah Kru). The result is a highly efficient adaptive fighting style that allows the user to adapt to the enemy combat system without having learned it himself.

LING LOM (monkey-air or air-monkey) is a weaponless fighting system of PAHUYUTH, executed and carried out with full physical use. The origins of this unique fighting method reach back to the time of the Glie Gauw Pienohng (around 2500 B.C.). First described by the Chinese as a "ghost" or "wraith fight" it was later named "Ling Lom" (monkey-air or air-monkey), due to its elusive character and unusual movements. The name stuck and lead to the common misconception, that LING LOM was derived from the imitation of animals or is somehow related to Chinese martial arts. As a matter of fact LING LOM solely utilizes the conditions and abilities of the human body.
LING LOM was used in Southeast Asian warfare throughout the ages. Some legends tell about warriors, who moved over the battlefield 'like the wind' and even fought between elephants legs.
Later (around 1000 A.D.) LING LOM became the origin of all Thai stand-up fighting methods, such as MUAI (Dtie Muai, Muai Duekdammbann), Muay Thai and of course the newer inventions like Muay Boran and the regional styles (Muay Chaiya, Muay Thasao, Muay Korat and many more). Traces of LING LOM or MUAI as common origin can also be found in Muay Lao, Bokator, Lethwei, Pradal Serey and other Southeast Asian fighting styles.
Armed LING LOM / PAHUYUTH is called AWUD or DUEY AWUD and lead, through some detours, to the invention of Krabi Krabong and its offsprings.
Nowadays LING LOM is mainly taught for self-defense purposes and for preservation of cultural heritage. For more information please check out our history book (link below).

=============================
Über Pahuyuth:
=============================

? Historischer Kontext:
============================
