The All-New Opel Manta GSe ElektroMOD Coupe with Crazy Animated Grill!
Opel's finally released the specs and details of its fully electric restomod Manta. It's called the Manta GSe ElektroMod, and it's designed as a 50th anniversary marker for the sporty coupe from the '70s that will promote the brand's growing strengths in electrification.
The restomod has had a radical design overhaul, using the Manta's base silhouette and injecting some 21st century tech into it. The most noticeable element is the 'Vizor' panel. It's a design cue that started off with the new Mokka crossover and will be the face of future Opels and Vauxhalls. But, this time, it's fully digital and pixelated, allowing you to display (slightly cringey) messages like 'I am on a zero e-mission' on the front.
Other details include full LED lights, a retina-searing lime green/yellow-ish paint finish with black bonnet (which is a nod to the original Manta GTE) and wheels that wouldn't look out of place on an old VXR model.
Inside, Opel has used the seats from the old Adam S and inserted the Mokka's 'Pure Panel' instrument and infotainment displays onto the retro dashboard.
Opel has thrown out the four-cylinder engine from the original and replaced the entire powertrain with e-power. It has a single e-motor making 145bhp and 166lb ft, with power coming from a 31kWh battery. Opel claims a range of around 124 miles.
Most interestingly, though, the four-speed manual of the original car remains. Opel says it can still be used, despite the e-powertrain. Or, if you prefer, you can shift it into fourth gear and drive it as if it was an auto (or, indeed, a normal EV).
While further details will be given at the car's unveiling, it is unlikely Opel will voice any intention of putting the Manta EV into production, limited or otherwise.

The new Mercedes-Benz S-Class: Under the microscope: active ambient lighting. Thanks to LED technology, the new S-Class has also taken a leap forward in its interior lighting: Mercedes-Benz has now realised interactive interior lighting for the first time. The active ambient lighting (optional) supplements ambient lighting (standard equipment) with an additional layer of light. It is integrated into the driving assistance systems, and is able to reinforce alerts visually. This also makes corresponding feedback possible for the comfort systems. This applies to the climate control system or the 'Hey Mercedes' voice assistant.
The number of LEDs has increased from the previous 40 to around 250 (247 in the W 223, 263 in the V 223). The optical fibres of the active ambient lighting are concealed behind a black panel facing, and are not visible when switched off. An LED is positioned inside every 1.6 centimetres. A strip of light appears when the active ambient lighting is switched on.
The new Mercedes-Benz S-Class: The parking assistants. Easy entry into confined parking spaces and narrow entrances! Thanks to improved environmental sensors, the parking systems give the driver even better support when manoeuvring at low speed. Operation is faster and more intuitive thanks to integration into MBUX. The optional rear-axle steering is integrated into the parking assistants, with the calculation of trajectories adapted accordingly. Emergency braking functions primarily serve to protect other road users. The driver can park and unpark the car via smartphone with remote parking assist. Operation has been simplified considerably. If specified with preinstallation for the INTELLIGENT PARK PILOT, the S-Class is prepared for Automated Valet Parking (AVP, SAE Level 4).
