From Illyria to Thebes - Anabasis of Alexander the Great by Arrian (Book 1, Chapter 6 & 7)
Alexander the Great just marched towards the city of Pelium, where the revolting Illyrian tribes had been making their stand. Here, Alexander would learn that retreat doesn't necessarily mean total defeat. But he would have to use his scouts, the art of subtlety and superior army to prevail.
But that was not the only crisis at hand. At the same time, the Greek city-state of Thebes rose up in rebellion, supported by Athens. Most of Greek states already disliked Alexander, but when an eye-witness arrives, who claims to have seen Alexander fall in battle, it finally sparks open rebellion.
Will Alexander be able to match and outmaneuver his foes?
