Dr. Jen Howk and Dr. Doug Lisle discuss current Covid news, including VAERS data, the surge in unclassified deaths from the CDC, the sheer audacity of the lies, and early Delta data (such as it is). Recorded June 22, 2021.
Just a little meandering wander around our food forest in progress, ID'ing some wild edibles and some general permaculture chitchat. Slow paced leisurely walk-n-talk. Apologies for some patches of quiet audio/weird focus issues, will fix them next time!

I get asked all the time what my opinion is about psychedelics and if they are worth the potential risk. This excerpt is part of my full answer that I recently gave on a members-only live Q&A to our Living Wisdom Library. To view the entire answer (which includes my musings on the fascinating and mind-bending theories put forward by Donald Hoffman) and to join future live Q&A sessions with myself and Dr. Doug Lisle on all topics related to health, relationships, personality, and evolutionary psychology, you can join for $3/month at www.esteemdynamics.com/living-wisdom-library.

In this short video Dr. Jen Howk draws on concepts from evolutionary psychology and esteem dynamics to give an overview of the lousy-but-true logic of many romantic breakups, and also some advice for getting past them more quickly and (maybe even!) a little less painfully.
PLUS a surprise walk-on cameo from the spectacular Motown (the best dog in the world.)

Many many moons ago, as an opinion columnist for my university newspaper, I was repeatedly called in to the editor's office and chastised for my "one note" columns. According to my editorial overlords, I was just too dang obsessed with state power, surveillance, censorship, and first amendment rights. (If you want to journey through the time machine to read some of my outraged ravings, here's one that is particularly amusing and ironic given that 1) I wound up at Harvard and 2) these days I now more or less agree with Larry Summers' infamous comments. If that's not a lesson in the importance of free and open discourse, I don't know what is.) https://www.dailyuw.com/opinion/article_167f20b3-f557-5cf9-aa05-0ca534cb8fec.html
Well, same problem, different administration. And it's far worse now than it was 15 years ago, simply because the capacity of the surveillance state has increased in step with the amount of information we constantly (and freely, willingly, happily) hand over through our daily activities.
This week Dr. Lisle and I discuss the union of state and corporate power to manage Covid "misinformation" and why it's not really about Covid at all, and why we should be worried as hell about it. I once again plot to move off grid, even though it isn't really possible anymore.

This is an excerpt of some of what we discussed in yesterday’s book club/“Truth Be Told” study group. Things got very real about how we so often (especially as women) wind up “playing defense” in life, making our world smaller and smaller so we can retain a sense of control over uncertainty, and how that can make us susceptible to addiction.
This group runs for eight weeks and replays and slides are posted each week, so it’s not too late to join—it’s included as part of the membership at https://collective.jenhowk.com.

I sit down with Jenna Pacelli, a licensed marriage and family therapist and Somatic Experiencing Practitioner for a rapid-fire discussion on a variety of topics and perspectives including: her background in wilderness therapy, early developmental trauma vs. "shock" trauma and what distinguishes them, how and why early trauma can linger in the body, how individuals can begin experimenting with a more embodied practice and approach (and also what doesn't work), the sorry state of therapy on social media, polar bears, and lots of other things.
