Sensei’s Sensational Sarsaparilla 2021 | Cigar Dojo | Espinosa cigars | #leemack912 (S08 E23). 5 1/2 x 52 belicoso vitola, Wrapper: Mexican San Andrés wrapper, Binder: Nicaraguan, fillers; condega and Estelí regions of Nicaragua. The cigar got its name due in part to the distinct flavor of sarsaparilla root beer that the companies say is found in the profile.
According to www.halfwheel.com
"The cigar returns in its original 5 1/2 x 52 belicoso vitola, using a Mexican San Andrés wrapper, Nicaraguan binder, and fillers from the Condega and Estelí regions of Nicaragua. The cigar got its name due in part to the distinct flavor of sarsaparilla root beer that the companies say is found in the profile.
“The original Sarsaparilla was the first Dojo collaboration where we had full control of the final product,” said Eric Guttormson, owner of Cigar Dojo, via a press release, adding that “the Espinosa team let us run wild with the branding, marketing, and promotion, as well as picking the final blend.”
Now, Sensei’s Sensational Sarsaparilla gets a more refined presentation, as the first version came in paper-wrapped bundles. Production numbers have also increased, though the company has not disclosed them other than to say that the cigar is becoming an ongoing, seasonal release, as opposed to the one-time run of 1,000 bundles of 10 cigars for the original. Additionally, while the original version was a store exclusive, this new version will be available to retailers nationwide.
“Bro, when you think of Cigar Dojo and Espinosa Cigars, your first thought is Sarsaparilla,” said Erik Espinosa, owner of Espinosa Premium Cigars, via a press release. “It’s the one that started it all. It’s time for everyone to get a turn with this cigar.”
Each cigar has an MSRP of $10, with boxes priced at $99.95. It will be formally released at the 2021 PCA Convention & Trade Show, which runs from July 10-13. The cigar is scheduled to begin shipping to retailers in August.
This will be the third release of Sensei’s Sensational Sarsaparilla, as a second version in a 6 x 50 toro vitola was released in October 2016."

The follow-up to the Undercrown Dojo Dogma is arriving in stores.
Late last week, Drew Estate began shipping the Undercrown Dojo Dogma Sun Grown, a 5 x 54 box-pressed robusto extra. The cigar uses an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper over a stalk-cut and stalk-cured habano binder from the Connecticut River Valley. Underneath are fillers from Nicaragua, including aged ligero from the Nuevo Segovia region.
Pricing is set at $10.20 per cigar or $244.80 per box of 24.
This is the eighth size for the Undercrown Sun Grown line:
Undercrown Sun Grown Flying Pig (3 15/16 x 60) — $12.72 (Boxes of 12, $152.64)
Undercrown Sun Grown Robusto (5 x 54) — $8.48 (Boxes of 25, $212)
Undercrown Sun Grown Corona (5 5/8 x 46) — $8.20 (Boxes of 25, $205)
Undercrown Sun Grown Gran Toro (6 x 52) — $9.02 (Boxes of 25, $225.50)
Undercrown Sun Grown Belicoso (6 x 52) — $9.84 (Boxes of 25, $246)
Undercrown Sun Grown Gordito (6 x 60) — $11.20 (Boxes of 25, $280)
Undercrown Sun Grown Corona Doble (7 x 54) — $10.38 (Boxes of 25, $259.50)
Undercrown Sun Grown Coronets (4 x 32) — $1.80 (Tin of 10, $18; Sleeve of 50, $90)
Undercrown Sun Grown Dojo Dogma (5 x 54) — $10.20 (Box of 24, $244.80)
The Dojo Dogma brand is a collaboration between Drew Estate and Cigar Dojo, an online cigar blog and community. Cigar Dojo has partnered with a number of brands to create Dojo-themed cigars, though most of them have been sold at a specific retailer.
In 2018, Drew Estate released the Undercrown Maduro Dojo Dogma to retailers nationwide, something that has continued for the last two years. The Undercrown Sun Grown Dojo Dogma will be sold nationwide at Drew Diplomat Retail Program stores.

If there has been a phrase that feels a bit overused when it comes to cigars, it’s long awaited. In the case of Sin Compromiso from Steve Saka’s Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust, it’s a phrase that gets uttered after nearly three and half years of waiting.
Word of the cigar first emerged in June 2015 when Saka launched Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust, his post-Drew Estate venture. A search of trademark filings revealed the name, along with Sobremesa, Todos Las Días and Lote Limitada. It would show up on a price sheet the following month at the 2015 IPCPR Convention & Trade Show, with 10 vitolas available for a line that Saka said “was not close to being ready,” and for which he had just started to purchase tobacco. What we did know, by Saka’s own words, was that the cigar was to be “a Nicaraguan Puro of only the absolute best of everything that is being crafted at JDN – absurdly priced, your wallet would be wise to ignore. 13 amazing cigars for ridiculous money…”
The cigar world would get a look at the box via social media in July 2016 ahead of that year’s trade show, though the cigars were not on display there.
Jump ahead to the summer of 2018, and it appeared that the Sin Compromiso was finally ready to be released. Saka announced in June that the cigar would be ready for the IPCPR Convention & Trade Show the following month, and they were, though with a different blend than the Nicaraguan puro promised three years earlier. Instead, it uses a Mexican San Andrés Negro “Cultivo Tonto” wrapper, an Ecuadorian habano binder and a Nicaraguan filler.
In September, the line began shipping in five soft-pr

Cigar Authority's 2016 Cigar of the Year was the La Galera Connecticut. Watch this review and see why haters of Connecticut wrapped cigars should try this one.
According to www.cigarauthority.com
"The La Galera Connecticut comes to us from Tabacalera Palma which has origins back to the mid 19th century when a Spanish citiizen named Jose Manuel Blanco Lozada moved to the Dominican Republic to specialize in the trade of tropical fruits and tobacco.
La Galera is the first project from Jochy Blanco that will be distributed by Indian Head Cigars; a company he acquired back in the fall of 2015. The name of the cigar is a term for the heart of any cigar factory. In this case, it is the space where experienced rollers concentrate to express their art in creating cigars using the best tobacco from the fields of the Cibao Valley in the Dominican Republic.
Last week we took a look at the Habano and today we follow it up with the Connecticut
Cigar Review: La Galera Connecticut
Size: 6 1/8 x 52 (Cortador / Torpedo)
Wrapper: Ecuador Connecticut
Binder: Dominican Republic
Filler: Piloto Cubano, Criollo ’98, Dominican T-112
Strength: Mild-Medium
The Look: Unlike the Habano which utilizes dress boxes the La Galera Connecticut comes shipped in white cabinet style boxes of 20 cigars. The foot of the cigar is wrapped in a red ribbon giving the cigar some contrast to the near blonde wrapper. The white band with red and gold highlights denotes La Galera Connecticut. To mix things up I selected the torpedo size mainly because I haven’t smoked one in ages. The cigar is flawlessly rolled with no soft spots and a well packed foot.
The Notes: The cold draw of the La Galera Connecticut Cortador is reminiscent of social tea cookies with a touch of buttery richness and a little bit of earth. The aroma off the foot matches that off the cold draw and it’s like a little bit of Nabisco in a cigar.
Once the first third is toasted and lit with my Vertigo Cyclone the torpedo shaped La Galera serves up notes of buttery richness, cedar, earth and a hint of raisins. I am rather impressed but the subtle nuances this Connecticut has to offer. The retrohale of the cigar adds a little bit of a carrot like aroma.
In the second third of the cigar the cigar continues to serve up a myriad of flavors some of which are easy to identify (earth, cedar, nuts) and some that are so subtle they are more of an afterthought (cinnamon, tea). On the retrohale the cinnamon becomes more enhanced causing it to linger on the finish.
The last third sees the complexity tone down some. The cigar remains creamy with elements of earth and cedar. The aroma is a little sweet on the nose while the retrohale enhances the earthiness.
The Burn: The La Galera Connecticut has a perfect burn with a thin com
