Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon 03 [FLASHBACK] - Transformed Oedo Castle: Interior Decoration Hell!

NOTE: This is a re-do of an older LP, I'm doing this LP for myself and challenging myself in it as well. This is going to be a 5-heart only run, but I'll be keeping count of all the fortune dolls we'll run into as well!
Transformed Oedo Castle, the first major dungeon in the game! You will be getting a small dose of what all the dungeons in this game will have: water, platforming, pain pits, a very nasty hazard to avoid, things that will weird you out, an enemy or two that will keep you on your feet. However, 5 hearts will definitely be more than get by. Also, there are going to be fortune dolls in ALL the dungeons of the game, so be on the lookout for them. I'll help out by pointing them out as best as I can! Also, who's that weirdo with the blue on?

The reason why I made this my Labor Day special video is because of the amount of years I've put into Puyo Puyo and it all started with this game kicking my ass back in the day. It's always good to return this game once in a while and just wreck the competition. But I thought I could see how fast I could do it with if I tried... This run is apparently 12 minutes long!
The reason why it is considered a Casual Speedrun is that it's mostly just practice and understanding how much it would take to do this game quickly. It was a fun experience, but I can kind of see that speedrunning is not really my forte! Nevertheless, here's a showcase of myself doing this game quickly!

Bookcase and Spilt Milk Land continues its surprises upon poor Mickey's hide. However, there are a lot of forks in the road if you decide to go those routes. There are some teacups that can serve as nice continue points if you get through them and there's also a spot for extra power stars to collect. However, if you want, there's definitely a direct route to take if you just want to get out of there. The boss has a pretty specific pattern to it, it will always come out of the holes between the platforms in this order: 1-2-4-1-3. If you remember this order, you'll be able to get a jump on the boss before he can wreck you, but try to be precise or else.
Finally, we reach the king of stages, the one that WILL kill you with the use of enemy placement, tricky jumps and RANDOM BATS! I can only imagine another Game Over's coming.

Castle Eggman is another zone that got quite the revamping and one that I felt needed it sorely. The first act was a pretty crazy mess of woodland and death pits. Much of this was removed for a more satisfyingly sinister cliffside exterior. Here, the castle is more or less an afterthought until near the end of the level. In this version, the level design is unfortunately very muddling and at least, counter-intuitive. Here, the flaws of how things were in the past are greatly showcased.
However, Act 2 is actually a lot more what you might expect out of a Sonic game. It's a little faster-paced, more platforming but with some speed and is overall a more enjoyable level with a few pitfalls here and there. I feel that this is where the identity of the revamped zones as well as the changes done to the first two zones was discovered or implemented. Forks in the road, a focused or clearly established route and some traps/hazards to impede your progress.
Then... we'll have to go over the boss fight. It's... better than the last zone's, but you'll see.

So we're getting introduced to some of the new levels that the developers included in this hamburger munching adventure. Honestly, I REALLY wish the rest of the game had more elements that you see here. But this transition is reasonably fair for now. Mt. Kave is as expected: It's still a big pile of pain and misery; lots of tricks and traps to trip up the player and make them pay for any slip ups. Sure, Mr. Sly waits for you at the end, but with the telepathy ball, you'll be fiiiiine!
It's the Blackwoods and beyond where you'll be wishing you had infinite lives... Wait, don't fall for the trick!

The sandy times continue with our trip in the desert and one thing can definitely be stated! Consistency is the key to a good game of golf! Granted, I wanted to consistently get birdies for obvious reasons, but... well, there are times where the chips aren't lying like they should. That being said, keeping your ball out of the sand is the key to a solid score in golf on this course!
Or you know, you could cheat like that mask-wearing punk did, they know who they are!
