The setting - Sakoku era of Japan 200 years of isolation - makes sense no foreigners - Perfect for the characters - perfect for the story - The main character Mizu is a well fleshed out characters. - Her challenges are unique to the country and time period she lives in. _ we have a strong female lead with real character development, trained in the Samurai arts. This beats many of those bullshit talking points that men or young boys dont like female characters like Rey from Star Wars the force awakens. - We do like female leads its just that Disney and modern Hollywood suck at writting them. Other characters stories are not that important yet entertaining to watch. -The character Taigen wants to duel Mizu to get his honor back while a princess chases after him. Those arent the best moments but definitely worth watching. The story was so well thought out it seemed at times that they would get something wrong but it all works out. Mizu searching for the only four white men that were allowed into japan during the Sakoku era - a time when Japan would not allowed any foreigners into the country. And mizu having some identity issues because of the way she looks - half japanese and half european - hence the name blue eye samurai.
