Went out to an old fishing location to check it out. When I first fished it 30 years ago, there were trout and golden perch, then the redfin and carp moved in and took it over, but I got my best ever reddy a few years ago from one of these pools so I can't complain about that too much. Now, it appears the reddies have given way to the carp. All I saw in the 2 hours I fished the place were large schools of small carp and small schools of large carp. But I managed to bank one of these lovely fish. I was not really set up for carp, so was a bit behind the 8 ball from the start, I was hoping for big reddies. You do what you can though. ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XzxzGjjJMow

Fishing for rainbow trout in a rain storm is cold, wet and a heap of fun. If I am going to be wet and cold when fishing, there better be trout involved, and this session did not disappoint!

Canberra has a number of small rainwater dams scattered around the region. These are often little oasis's of calm and peace in the city, surrounded by bush areas and like a slice of the heaven in the city. They also hold some MONSTER yabbies. Join Ben and me as we search for some bait, with mixed success.

Fishing at Molongolo Reach at the flow in to Lake Burley Griffin can be very productive for carp, yellowbelly and cod. It is especially productive for redfin.
Some days can be frustrating though. Yesterday I put into practice the lessons I had learned from Robbie... dropped 4 strikes, landed one.

A fun little session catching a range of different estuary fish on ultra light tackle using supermarket baits, bread and chicken.
Mullet are great fun, like salt water trout. Fish for them in the same way you would rainbow trout, you will get heaps. They love a well presente fly, as well as a range of baits.
Luderick are good fun, and not as tricky as many people make out, especially in the smaller sizes. Light weight and small hooks will see you hooking up no problem.
Small bream, tarwhine and toads are common bycatch. They tear a bait to bits lol. Sometimes, they even hook up.

Fishing central basin on Lake Burley Griffin with a range of soft plastics and a couple of techniques to catch a nice little lot of Redfin Perch (Perca fluviatalis).
The twitch technique is great not only for redfin, but yellowbelly, silver perch, trout and bass, and flathead and bream in estuaries. You even pick up a number of carp along the way, and the chance of a cod is also good when fishing bigger plastics.
In all I ended with over a dozen fish in a little under two hours, so was a nice session. This is part one in which I show a couple of the techniques I use and catch 7 fish, although the count gets a little confused, my excuse is I discount the little f**ker! And sorry about the slip, I try not to swear, but that one made it in. There was a good size fish following and the smallest reddie of the day took the lure in front of it. Frustration...

A night of bait fishing with Ben at Tuggeranong. The hope was to get all 4 viable species: Carp, Cod, Yebbly and Reddy. We had bread, cheese and yabbies for bait, how could we fail? Did we succeed in the challenge? Watch to find out!
Thank you Ben for the photos!
