After a few years of absence a traveling PAHUYUTH swordsman returned to our school in order to deepen his knowledge about ancient Thai sword fighting (DAB). We will show this training session in multiple parts.
DAB (Sword) is an armed PAHUYUTH discipline, that deals with the art of sword fighting.
DAB and other PAHUYUTH weapon fighting methods were used on ancient battlefields and should not be confused with Krabi Krabong, which was invented much later (under King Rama II, 1767-1824 A.D.) with the clear intention of "entertainment, sport and presentation" in mind.
Please note, that this video is not about legitimate self-defense (there is a special section for such topics on our channel), but about traditional Thai sword fighting (DAB), which is taught for preservation of cultural heritage. We do not take any responsibility and we are not liable for any damage caused through whatever you are doing.

MAIH ZOOG (also „Mai Sawk“ or „Grarock“) is a traditional weapon-based martial art, that uses arm shields for attack and defense.
The MAIH ZOOG (also „Mai Sawk“ or „Grarock“) used to be a practical arm extension, used by fishermen to pull boats towards them or by farmersmen to move bigger straw bales. Some clever free warriors came up with the idea to turn this every day tool into a mighty shield for close-combat.
Loosely attached to the forearms it provides solid protection against bladed and blunt weapons at extremely close ranges and delivers devastating blows due to its additional weight and the metal bolts attached to the front. It is said that ancient shield-fighters were able to cut a swath through battlefields, leaving behind a trail of destruction.
Pahuyuth shield-warriors are extreme close-combat fighters, who fear neither weapons nor ground-fighting. They usually have excellent defense skills and precise boxing and elbow-techniques, they can use with or without their shields.
MAIH ZOOG and other PAHUYUTH weapon fighting methods were used on ancient battlefields and should not be confused with Krabi Krabong, which was invented much later (under King Rama II, 1767-1824 A.D.) with the clear intention of "entertainment, sport and presentation" in mind.

22 assorted Basic Unarmed vs. Knife Fighting Techniques. Please note, that this is a technical demonstration at very slow speed. All techniques are basic level and were created on the go. None of these techniques were staged or choreographed.
MIED (Knife) is an armed Pahuyuth discipline, that deals with the art of Thai knife fighting.
Only few things are known about ancient Thai knife fighters, since they used to remain in the shadows and often fought concealed in enemy territory. Since it is rather uncommon for MIED practicioners to carry any kind of weapon with them, they have a strong connection to using their opponents weapons to their advantage. With knife-fighting as a starting point, MIED students often follow the path of AWUD (general weapons or armed Pahuyuth), by subsequently adding knowledge about sword-, staff-, shield- and cloth-fighting to their personal skillsets. This enables them to fight with and against any kind of melee weapon or to instantly turn random items from their surrounding into improvised weaponry. Today MIED is taught for self-defense purposes and for the preservation of cultural heritage.
WARNING: This video is NOT about legitimate self-defense. The techniques in this video are VERY DANGEROUS. Some of the techniques in this video are LETHAL. DO NOT attempt to recreate or re-enact any activities performed in this video. We do not take any responsibilitiy and we are not liable for any damage or injuries caused through whatever you are doing.

NO SPORTS, NO GLOVES, NO BANDAGES, NO SHIN-GUARDS, NO MOUTH-GUARD, NO MATS - MUAI (also DTIE MUAI or MUAI DUEKDAMMBAN) is traditional boxing using the four bodily weapons of fist, foot, elbow and knee.
To make a living during times of peace, from approx. 900 AD Pahuyuth warriors began to stage improvised fights employing punches, kicks and strikes of the elbows and knees. From this arose a new method of fighting called MUAI which later evolved to become the Thai national sport Muay Thai and other Southeast Asian fighting styles (such as Muay Boran, Muay Chaiya, Muay Korat, Muay Thasao, Bokator, Pradal Serey, Lethwei, Muay Lao and many more). As a direct spinoff of LING LOM, MUAI proved itself as highly effective in hand-to-hand combat, which is why the ancient warriors brought it back into Pahuyuth and maintained it in its original form. Due to its unique origin, MUAI can be described as the „original Muay Boran”(ancient Muay).

A bit of fun amongst friends. As usual with no gloves, no bandages, no shin-guards, no mouthguard and no mats - just precision, control and a preference for ancient techniques. That's how we like it!
MUAI is a traditional standup fighting method, that should not be confused with Muay Thai, Muay Boran or regional styles (such as Muay Chaiya, Muay Korat and many more). It derived directly from Ling Lom (unarmed Pahuyuth, actually used in warfare) and is the oldest and probably the most conclusive of all Muay styles. Due to its unique origin MUAI not only includes techniques, that have become illegal in sports, but also many techniques, tricks and tactics that were never used in show or competition. In compare to the relatively new "Boran" (ancient) one could very well describe MUAI as "Duekdammban" (prehistoric). Today MUAI is taught for self-defense or security reasons and for the preservation of cultural heritage.
