With the Rainforest and Marsh stages, I find it nice to have stone and gem currencies in abundance and thus, have extra items for merges as insurance against accidents with your resources, by buying the explorations rather than turning in the queens blessings sometimes. There is always a 'clean' way to win a level. There is nothing wrong with playing conservatively though. Good luck.
