when was the first alcoholic beverage made? Which beverages were made in ancient times by the different civilizations? What I quickly found out is that we humans have been making and drinking alcohol for a much much longer period of time that I had thought before looking into it. Before we start, I would like to note that as most, if not all, of you watching know; animals have been eating fermented fruits long before humans started doing the same.
The oldest intentionally fermented beverages may have existed as early as 13,000 BCE during the late Mesolithic / early neolithic era. In Haifa, modern day Israel, the oldest verifiable brewery was discovered in a prehistoric burial cave. There were stone mortars found carved into the cave floor where the traces of a wheat and barley based alcohol was discovered. The researchers have hypothesized that the alcoholic drinks would have most likely been used for ritual feasts honouring the dead.
Our camera died almost 2 weeks ago, but our human figured out a way to film us while the new camera is being shipped to us.
Sorry for the lesser video quality.
At least we didn't mind, we had a great time outside & we even had a catrobatic party!

Who were the Picts?
These mysterious ancient warriors left a legacy that’s without a doubt not fully understood, They left standing stones engraved with depictions of animals, warriors and mythical beasts, they left barrow cemeteries and much more.
They seemed to have quite suddenly disappeared from the face of the earth.
What happened to them?
They're often referred to as the lost people of Europe.

Fun cold day after the storm
Yesterday we had the first storm of 2019 in The Netherlands, but you know what they say, after storm & rain comes sunshine.
So today the weather was quite mild and the sun even came through a couple of times.
The cats enjoyed being outside for the first time in over a month, lately it had been too cold for them to go outside, since they're indoor kitties they don't get a wintercoat, so we have to be careful whenever we go outside in the wintertime. don't want them to catch a kitty cold.
Enjoy the video! & subscribe for more fun cat videos!

We made a video today of the cats outside.
Yesterday it was storming here in the Netherlands and the wind was still blowing really hard.
We really had a good time playing outside.
After a while it started raining again, more videos soon!

It’s time to change the current known historic timeline when it comes to the arrival of us modern humans, or Homo sapiens, in Europe.
The timeline needs to be altered and pushed back 10,000 years at least as new evidence has come to light in a cave in France.
The evidence of the earlier occupation by Homo sapiens in Europe was discovered in a Cave, the Mandrin Cave to be exact and this cave is located near Montelimar in the Rhone region of Southern France.
In this cave the archaeologists discovered the fossilized remains of Homo sapiens and their tools sandwiched between the fossilized remains and tools of Neanderthals.
So to recap, Neanderthals lived in Europe from approximately 400,000 years ago until 35,000 years ago, give or take a few thousand years on both ends, we have to go off of the fossil record and as I’ve stated numerous times now, the fossil record can’t give us exact dates because conditions need to be perfect for specimen to become fossilized and able for us to date.
So up until this new information, it was always believed that Homo sapiens entered Europe approximately 45,000 years ago and that these 2 species or lineages lived together for some 5,000 or 10,000 years.
Which is why there are people who believe that the Neanderthals went extinct because of Homo sapiens, that Homo sapiens were the root cause of neanderthals disappearing.
Some people think that Homo sapiens murdered Neanderthals and drove them to extinction, others believe that Homo sapiens were able to procreate much faster and therefore out bred Neanderthals, maybe even interbred a lot and thus Neanderthals were dissolved into the Homo sapiens.
Of course none of these theories can be proven and this is not the subject of today’s video, but I did want to mention them because instead of these 2 species living together in the same area for no more than 10,000 years it is now clear that they were living in the same area for at least 15,000 to 20,000 years.
This as you can imagine makes the previously mentioned theories a lot less likely, having co-existed for such a long time shows that the arrival of Homo sapiens did not push the Neanderthals to extinction and that there is a different reason as to why they disappeared.

Fossilized ancient pre-human remains were launched into space on the 3rd commercial flight by Virgin Galactic on September 8th 2023.
Let’s take a look at the reason as to why these fossils were on board of the commercial flight in space, who chose these fossils, who took them along with them and why this was done.
Launching ancient pre human remains into space isn’t something that many scientists and palaeontologists around the world perceive as a good idea.

A list of misconceptions surrounding Neanderthals and have all these misconceptions cleared up in one easy to share video!
The first misconception is that Neanderthals were dumb cave dwelling brutes.
There is more than sufficient evidence at this point in time that Neanderthals were intelligent, not just a little bit intelligent but equally as smart as us, modern humans.
There are a lot of misconceptions about what Neanderthals looked like, this has several reasons.
Like for instance the first reconstruction and thus depiction of a Neanderthal was created by French Palaeontologist Marcellin Boule in 1911.
This reconstruction was created after the discovery of the remains of a Neanderthal male at La Chapelle-aux Saints 1 cave.
The remains were approximately 60,000 years old and the Neanderthal male was estimated to be around 40 years of age.
You can see that the reconstruction depicts the Neanderthal male to be slouched, hunched, with bent knees, a straight lumbar spine, large protruding skull and brutish.
Because the curvature of the lumbar spine was missing in this Neanderthal individual it was immediately believed that all Neanderthals would have the same straight spine and terrible posture that was hunched back and therefore It was believed that Neanderthals were semi-bipedal.
Therefore the researchers back in the day believed that Neanderthals hadn’t fully evolved much like we did from the Great apes that we all came from.
Marcellin Boule then went on to further characterize the species of the Neanderthals as primitive creatures, creatures that had no similarities and relations to the anatomy of Homo sapiens, modern humans.
But what he didn’t realize at the time when he made this reconstruction is the fact that the skeletal remains that he was reconstructing belonged to an old male Neanderthal, and most likely one with a spinal deformity as it now seems that the shape of his particular spine was extremely uncommon among the Neanderthals.
The deformity came from the fact that this particular Neanderthal male had osteoarthritis, this is when the cartilage in the joints wear down in a more rapid rate or have been worn off completely, the lack of cartilage can cause the bone of the joint to thicken and move less smoothly.
So after we have discovered more and more Neanderthal skeletal remains we can clearly see that their anatomy is very similar to that of us modern humans, that they stood upright, no bent knees and fully bipedal.

A total of 88 footprints have been discovered here at the salt flats of the Great Salt Lake Desert in Utah, they belong to adults and children, and these prints could offer us quite a bit more insight into the lives of the people living in the Pleistocene in this part of the world.
It seems like they were walking in shallow water at the time, where the sand rapidly filled in the left behind prints, just like you would see happening at a beach, but the main difference between a beach and this exact location was that there was a layer of mud beneath the sand that actually kept the prints intact after they had been filled in.
