In this video I carry out a vastly improved prep of palladium(II) chloride dihydrate that I found on the atomistry article for palladous chloride (linked below). In this method Pd black is combined with moderately strong HCl and then chlorine gas is bubbled through the suspension. The solution is then evaporated to afford very clean palladium dichloride dihydrate. I also decided to explore a hunch of mine and prepared tetramethylammonium hexachloropalladate(IV) [N(CH3)4]2[PdCl6] from tetramethylammonium tetrachloropalladate(II) [N(CH3)4]2[PdCl4] which I made from hexachloropalladic acid, tetramethylammonium bromide, and chlorine gas.
