The hip and the knee are intertwined in their destiny - The hip is the base of the core and the knee stems off of the core and is dependent on the hip for stability and mobility. The way the body works is to alternate stable joints and mobile joints throughout the body. This provides a network of mobility and stability without compromising either. Imagine if you only had ball-and-socket joints all over the body! That wouldn't work out very well.
In our situation, the hip is supposed to be strong but mobile, while the knee is designed to be stable. Issues arise when the hip becomes brittle and stiff with bad daily habits such as sitting and the knee is forced to take some of the mobility work into its own "hands". Avoid this high-risk injury situation and create better balance throughout your body. Remember, that in addition to improving flexibility and mobility where it is supposed to be, you will improve your aesthetics and strength output in addition to muscle-building capacity.
