Snow Twister: Remington 870 12 Gauge with a Fenix LD10
The last gun (and lighting system) that I wanted to test in the Snow Twister - a snowy, desert run & gun course featuring myself and two buddies - is my Remington 870 12 gauge shotgun with my Fenix LD10 flashlight attached. The shotgun is a devastating, and fairly versatile weapon. It is currently the only long-gun I own that is suitable for real defensive work, and as I'm a big believer in mastering the guns, and systems you have, I make an effort to take this gun out every chance I get. A suitable lighting rig for my 870 has been eluding me for some time, but it appears that the Fenix LD10 - in my configuration - is going to work just fine. There are still some things I don't like about the LD10 as a dedicated weapon light - it's multi-mode, it's a less-standard size for weapon mounting, and... I'd rather have it with my camping gear. However, I need to use what I have, so the LD10 is staying on the gun for the time being.

Encountering face numbing temperatures, and treacherous, rocky, snow-covered terrain, I ventured out with two of Youtube's finest - SnowLobo95 (with Lady Lobo) & Cr0cket20, for a full day of shooting and camaraderie. Lots of training and data-collecting goals were set for the day, but many were forgotten as we took full advantage of the real benefits of an outing like this - friendship and fun

Taking my first shots with this new HARD CHROME plated Kel-Tec Sub 2000 folding rifle in 9mm - Glock magazine version. On this first outing, I put about 100 rds through the gun to get a feel for it, and see how it performed. So far, I like it. It's very light weight and extremely well balanced. It shoots the inexpensive 9mm round, and takes commonly found Glock magazines. As much as I like the idea of this folding gun that can fit in a backpack or a car trunk with ease, If it's going to stay in my arsenal, and get the attention it deserves - extended magazines, sling, light, paint-job, etc. - it's going to have to do better than it did today. There were no malfunctions to speak of on this first outing with the gun, but I was not impressed with the sights or the cheek-weld. If I can't adapt and learn to reliably hit targets with this gun at 100 yds or more, I don't think it will stick around. As most owners of the Cold Steel Trail Boss axe know, there is currently no manufactured sheath available to protect your axe. This is a problem if you plan to take your axe anywhere besides your backyard, so you pretty much have to make your own sheath. There are dozens - if not hundreds - of great axe sheath designs out there, and in researching them i came up with this simple and inexpensive leather sheath design.
