Why is Ubuntu 23.04 file I/O is so much faster than Fedora 38?
Last week I published two videos: one for Ubuntu 23.04 and one for Fedora Workstation 38. In those two videos was a benchmark of the usual subsystems I measure. The Fio benchmark showed a drastic difference between Ubuntu and Fedora, and I mean Huge difference, I mean 100,000 IOPS difference. I dug into the data and here is what I found.

A personal journey of seven years for me, to find an ARM based machine that can perform the tasks I need without appearing to be slow. The candidates: the Raspberry PI 2, Odroid C2, Odroid XU4, Asus Tinkerboard, Raspberry PI 3, Odroid N2, Raspberry Pi 4, Khadas VIM 3, Odroid N2+. and now the Odroid-M1 is being put to the test., does it have what it takes? Or...do I continue on with my search.
I don't know what it is, something about the small form factor, low power draw, low cost and the ability to run Linux. For five years now these devices have been my home lab servers, oh yeah I have two Intel Nucs where I run my virtual machines, but the one place I have never been successful to find a machine that will support the workloads I throw at them is the Linux Desktop.

In this episode of the CyberGizmo I am taking an in depth look at FreeBSD 13.2 Release. Talking about some the of the major changes to the release of this UNIX-like operating system. The benchmark section, RAMSpeed was unable to be compiled because it is not supported on FreeBSD, also I had to substitute Posix-AIO for linix-aio, so the fio benchmarks were split by OpenBenchmarking since the parameters are not the same.

Odroid XU4 sold by Ameridroid https://ameridroid.com/products/odroid-xu4
I am not affiliated with Ameridroid or Odroid just a happy customer of both.

In this episode of the CyberGizmo I explore the features of Pop!-OS, installation on a Virtual Machine, then at the end upgrading my cantankerous MSI Stealth laptop. (After backing up the full system and tar'ring up my /home directory just in case it all goes horribly wrong.

I am looking at Password Managers, mainly because I need to switch off from the one I am using, and I also need password management for my ARM platforms. I am also looking into the current suggested length in passwords for 2021, I have heard everything from 12 characters to 24 characters. At some point the password length is not going to matter it will just be one long diminishing returns and we will all be looking to do something different. So I am looking at 3 Password Managers for LInux, and I am including a sneak peak into a potential password-less solution for Linux today as well (yeah, Its a Beta).
