You could make the argument "this could never happen in the US because it's the world reserve currency" but what if something like I don't know, a digital currency was formed? May not be bitcoin specific but if they make a national digital currency without the problems of the old their going to act like that one Simpsons episode where they just moved the town 5 miles down the road after the trash problem got out of hand.
