Review: Toy walkie talkies - range test and look inside
A marvel of modern manufacturing is how it can deliver radio transceivers for less than $8 for two - or cheaper than the 9 volt batteries required to run them.
Are such toys any good and how do they compare with what was available 30 years ago? Find out in this video where I do several range tests and comparisons.
In addition you'll see the extent to which modern construction has been used (or not) and how the old techniques of superregenerative receivers and free-running AM transmitters is used in a modern toy. ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JltHpKYRx44
I was looking at some location data for VKFF parks and noted a newly listed one near me. It was a fine day so it was time to pay it a visit and get it on the air.
It hadn't been activated before so many were eager to work it. The result was pages of contacts in my two hours there, including some DX. As you'll see, particularly unusual about the location and conditions was the number of DX stations with weak signals who could hear and work me.

Putting together a '10 min QRP transmitter' from Sprat. Then adding a final amplifier and getting on air. On a performance per components basis it's hard to beat.

Reviewing and demonstrating a $14 electronic component tester.

NOTE: FEBRUARY 2015: There is a way to get the capacitance measure to read 0pF with no capacitance. Short all three pins together for the first four self-tests. Then just before the last test insert a 100nF capacitor. Switch on will now display 'no/unknown/damaged part'. It will now measure capacitors over about 35pF, displaying the correct value. There will be no indication with smaller capacitors - to measure those have them in parallel with a larger capacitor (say 100pF). Thanks to Steve G1KQH for this tip.
