In case you didn't know, Ben has a new book out: "Cancelling Comedians While The World Burns." Recently, Adam Wakeling from Quillette reviewed Ben's book. Jordan Peterson quote tweeted that review (clearly not having read the book or any of Ben's work) and called Ben "the best of the left." Ben's response is to ask Jordan Peterson to come on the show (or anywhere really) to debate him. The Jordan Peterson Debate Challenge begins!

Ben gives his commentary on a section of the recent debate between Emma and Tim, in which the two argue over U.S policy regarding the war in Ukraine. Ben calls out Tim for advocating a measure that could have potentially started World War III.

Ben Burgis heard Dennis Prager claim during a recent debate that he had never compared any group (before Hamas) to the Nazis, and that he didn't support the Iraq War. Ben had a feeling Dennis was lying, and was quickly able to find the receipts to prove it.

Nathan Robinson, editor in chief of “Current Affairs,” joins Ben Burgis and producer Forrest Miller to discuss a now infamous tweet, or rather set of tweets, mocking the inclusion of money for Israel in a Covid-19 relief package as, well, both unrelated to Covid-19 relief in the U.S. and a common addition to Congressional spending legislation. In his first tweet, Robinson jokes that it is law that Congress must dedicate a portion of all new spending toward “buying weapons for Israel.” In the second tweet, Robinson clarifies that if it’s not written into U.S. law then it’s “so ingrained in political custom as to functionally be indistinguishable from law.” The second tweet makes it clear to even the most uninformed reader that this ~might~ not be the law, but honestly, it’s clear to Nathan Robinson’s usual audience that this is a joke.
WELL. One person took particular issue with this tweet, and it would really be someone you’d hope would not only realize that this tweet is a joke, but also realize that it was a reasonable criticism, even if it wasn’t one he personally agreed with. This person is John Mulholland, editor in chief of “The Guardian.”
Now Nathan J. Robinson is FIRED!!!! From “The Guardian”!!!!! He was asked to delete the tweet, and he did. He also tried to save his job at “The Guardian.” No such luck for him, but it is lucky for us, because we get to see how petty and stupid John Mulholland and “The Guardian” are willing to be over something that is not only decidedly NOT antisemitic, but is not something that the Jewish community in the U.S. agrees upon.
Now Robinson’s decided to tell everyone that John Mulholland, not only an editor but apparently an aspiring moderator of all things moral and correct on Twitter, had given him an ultimatum regarding deleting the tweet and also weirdly called the tweet antisemitic in a sort of postscript to his email to Robinson. This is not a lesson that is specific to these two people, but rather something that could apply to many of us: You can in fact lose your job for putting a non-bigoted joke on social media. That’s where we are right now.
