A Sunday Afternoon Revelation: Finding Passion in Financial Services (Part I)
One Sunday afternoon, my mom and dad beckoned me to sit down for a conversation that left me pondering, "What have I done?" To my surprise, they were inquiring about my plans, my interests, and my aspirations. The truth spilled out as I recounted an impactful experience at Three Mice LTD that shaped my long-term goals in the financial services sector.
The turning point occurred during a pitch for Old Mutual at Three Mice LTD. Given my background in finance, my boss, Paul Kukubo, entrusted me with the task of deciphering Old Mutual's products for the creation of an E-commerce experience. I vividly recall the collaborative problem-solving sessions at our company. Everyone gathered in a room, tossing around ideas without reservations, crafting solutions for our clients. Leading this process was exhilarating—I had an absolute blast.
As we delved into the intricacies of Old Mutual's products, a realization dawned on me. The dynamic and creative approach we employed to solve problems resonated deeply with my passion. The experience of translating financial complexities into innovative solutions ignited a spark within me. Walking into Old Mutual, I couldn't help but feel an overwhelming certainty: "This is what I want to do with my life."

Steve Ominde knew ever since he finished high school that he wanted to be in music production but unlike the present day, entry was a very difficult thing.
Knowing very little about production Steve realised he had to expand his horizons if he was to progress. He maximised on an opportunity to travel to the US intent on working and getting himself some training. Odd jobs kept him going between 1997 and 2001 where he got the opportunity to volunteer at different studios learning the trade. During this period, he began setting up a home studio from where he would train himself. With time, he got the chance to work on contract basis with various studios.
Armed with production skills, studio equipment and great enthusiasm, Steve decided to relocate back home in 2001, proceeding to set up his studio, SoulChild Records in Nairobi.
Steve, who insists his name is not to be used interchangeably with that of his company Soulchild, has had his fair share of accomplishments: The 2003 KORA nod for Henri Mutuku being the crowning moment. #ThePlayHouse #cta101
