How to Assemble a Cufflink with Premade Parts PREVIEW
Even when buying pre made bits to create a piece of jewellery quickly and cheaply the individual parts always need attention to improve them one way or another. This video documents the best way I learned through experience to assemble spring bar backed cufflinks.

Sometimes you will have difficulty completing a job due to not having the correct equipment. In this video I share how I made annealing long wire easier with something I found outside.
In the past I have used a fire extinguisher to get the correct curvature on a piece of metal, used a fish tank net to hold pieces in the ultrasonic, cleaned polish off with dishwasher powder, used model making equipment to polish out collets, used car gear box oil to lubricate tools etc.
If it works....Use it!

I was making another 'Jeweller Reviews' video about safely using gas cylinders at home. I wanted to share some things I learned while studying for the qualification I needed to be able to have Oxy/Propane at home here in Japan.
I want to encourage everyone to understand the potential dangers of misusing gas cylinders.

Its been too long since the last upload.
Ive done quite a lot of work to the ring and even started another one of the same design. The final finished ring will be almost the same but the method to get there is very different.
Its testing my abilities as a jeweller and has frustrated me a little even at this early stage of completion. However, I'm grateful for the opportunity to make something that pushes me out of my comfort zone and will increase my skill level even higher.
Onwards and upwards!
I am now on Patreon!
With patrons support I will be able to offer far more information than I am currently able to.
With nearly 25 years of knowledge gained in the jewellery trade working with some of the best diamond mounters in the UK I can train practitioners of jewellery making, up to and far beyond the skill level found in High Street jewellers workshops.
Become a classic patron you will not only be able to view part 2 of full instructional guides but also be thanked personally on the next youtube upload! You will also have access to all future uploads 2 weeks before they go live on youtube.
Official patrons have all the benefits of a classic patron but also gain access to regular exclusive content. Behind the scenes, personal jewellery projects Im working on, I share ideas for future videos, photos and stories from throughout my career as a professional jeweller.
Also Official patrons are welcome to suggest ideas for future videos and contact me anytime if they need advice for their own jewellery making endeavors.
Classic patronage is just £5 a month and to become Official costs only £10 a month.
I believe this is great value.
As the number of full instructional guides continues to grow the value will be even more considerable.

A quick explanation of how I believe is the best way to reduce the diameter of a piece of tube.
There are other ways but this is the least wasteful technique. Considering the current precious metal prices this something always to keep in mind!
Tube can be used as a shortcut creating rub over settings. This is exactly what I was using it for. The tube I bought was slightly too large and so I needed to pull it down a little to suit my diamonds.

My vehicle to do this is the Diamond Mounter YouTube channel and now after nearly 1 year of uploading video guides, its time to take it up a level.
My ambition is to be able to make instructional videos with not just silver, but gold and platinum also. Some proper jewellers soldering equipment will enable me to create much more special pieces too! This will open up a whole new world of information I have to share.
There are many specific methods and techniques used for the different precious metals and knowledge about gemstones I can teach that will never enter my videos unless I am actually working with them.

In this video I give full instructions explaining how to make a 'cut down' style full eternity. It could also be viewed as a guide for converting a wedding ring in to a full eternity ring.
The method is simple however to complete it successfully great care must be taken to work accurately.

A gauge of a diamonds quality is in its weight, clarity, colour and cut. The same attributes could be used to gauge a coloured gemstones quality but a a big difference is that the cut of a coloured gemstone is not considered very important it seems.
Im making a mount for this sapphire and wanted to show a classic example of a sapphire looking nicely cut from above but underneath being a wonky mess.
