Merry Christmas! This is one of my favorite drives up Tioga Pass which leads one into Yosemite from the east side. You end up driving up about 3,000 ft. to get up a little less than 10,000 ft elevation. Usually, when I go through here the conditions are sunny, but this was a different situation. I sped up the video a little so people are driving a little faster than they normally would. We end up at Tioga Lake very close to the eastern station into Yosemite. ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k2-40Yml9fc
This is the first in a three part series. The Shark Fin is really known among rock climbers. I emphasize it as movie location here. Go to my blog for a little more infomation on this:

I thought I would show an updated version of one of my first videos on my old channel. This marks the 50th video I have done for this channel in about a years time. The old blog entry with pictures:

This is connected to my San Jacinto Hike (Ramona Epic #24) video. Most of this was filmed when I was just about to leave and shows you how the station is today compared to the late 1960's. Yeah, it was very warm compared to being at a higher elevation most of that day. I was really wearing down, but I wanted to be sure I got this before I got out of there. The last part shows you some brief footage I took boarding the tram and going up. Be sure to check out my San Jacinto hike video (linked at the end) to see the actual hike to the top of Mt. San Jacinto. My blogs on this:

This is a revised version of a video location I did a few years ago. I give some commentary on how they filmed this scene here. The location is in the area known as Cattle Pocket in the Alabama Hills. See if you can pick out all the same rocks. I did an old blog on this one here:

There is nothing really here anymore of the once populated town of Aurora. Still, it is my favorite ghost town so I wanted to make a couple of videos of where it once was. The following blogs clarify some of the things said in this video:

Errata: One correction that I think I need to make here is that I think the gunfighter William Carder was actually killed at the Exchange Saloon. A very similar sounding place. Although, the irony is I was probably standing a lot closer to where he was killed with my back within feet of the Exchange Saloon site when I said that in the video. That saloon was by where the gray car is parked and the guy is standing at 4:52. I'll make a note of it in the next video. There is some ambiguity in the books I have on this and the reason for my mistake.

Note: My apologies for the re-upload. The first version uploaded was missing about 40 seconds of footage. The whole point of this was to show the complete descent. So, it was important that I get this right. The ending 40 seconds is without sound because the video footage to me was more important to get right than adding more music....you know how I feel about that music...the ending works without sound.
This is the last video I will be doing for a long time. I am going on hiatus for a while. I love making videos, but there are other things I want to look into doing for this channel. That will take me some time and money to do. Until then, see you down the trail...
This was on the way home from the drone flights at Saddlebag and Tioga Lakes. Originally, I wanted no music, but with the window down the noise was pretty bad on the GoPro so I just added some music. I explain the situation at the beginning, but if you want to turn it off or listen to your own music I designed it with that in mind.

Today is the 75th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor that brought the U.S. into World War 2. In April, I was at the Planes of Fame Airshow in Chino where they began the show with a tribute to Pearl Harbor.
Mostly the Japanese aircraft of course until the very end. 353 Japanese aircraft took part in the air raid. The Curtis P-40 Warhawk was inferior to the Japanese Zero. However, a few Zeros were shot down by the P-40 pilots.

Alright, the grand finale! Your homework after watching this the first time is to watch it again to match up every single rock to the movie clip(s). Using the pause button will help you do that!
I'll link the three blog entries below that I use for this location, but a couple of clarifications first:
Two things I say about the movie in the video needs some correction. I refer to Joel's cowboys as the "posse". I was using that more as a generic description of a Joel's group. Usually, in the old west movies, a posse is authorized by the law to hunt down the criminals. In this movie, if my memory is correct, it is just bad cowboys trying to take over the cattle empire and good cowboys trying to stop them.
The other thing shows my bias about why I am not a big fan of the movie as a whole. I said they spent most of the movie on a town set. That is not really true. It felt like they did since the outdoor scenes they show for the cattle drives were unremarkable to me. I seem to remember they used some stock footage for a bunch of the cattle driving scenes. It wasn't until the very end they used the terrain in very cool way.
