I've been there, sat at the bottom of dark holes, and I feel I know something of the way out again. I want to be to others that which I needed myself at earlier points in my life, so that people don't have to navigate the dark alone. I use tarot as a tool of self-discovery, personally and for my clients. It is possible to use it for divination purposes, and I do employ this in my readings, but I feel it is more important to get in touch with ourselves, first and foremost, and confront the ~ darker ~ sides of ourselves. No one is perfect, and personal growth is a never-ending endeavour. The closer we can get to our imperfections to objectively assess them, the easier it is to let go of those self-limiting beliefs, toxic behaviours and projections that we are all plagued with. #Pisces #PiscesTarot “Unless we do conscious work on it, the shadow is almost always projected: that is, it is neatly laid on someone or something else so we do not have to take responsibility for it.” The shadow is the dark half of our personality. It is filled with the negative emotions, attitudes and impulses that we find unacceptable, because we have been *taught* that they are unacceptable. The trouble with that is that those negative aspects do not ever go away - they get stuffed into the shadow, and over time, the shadow becomes more powerful than the conscious ‘good’ part of us. Our shadow responds before our conscious mind can; it is a protective mechanism that stops us making missteps that it perceives could isolate us from our ‘tribe’. Like all protective mechanisms though, there comes a point where it outlives its usefulness and becomes limiting. It stunts our emotional development by stopping us from taking responsibility for our actions or the more unpleasant parts of our character, preventing our growth and emotional maturity. Worse still, we judge harshly in other people those things that we try so hard to hide from within ourselves, and accidentally contribute to a darkening of others’ shadows. Shadow work is the process of building a bridge between these two parts of us. Recognition that the shadow exists is the first part, swiftly followed by objective and compassionate review, a questioning, of what the shadow might contain.
