Noise comparison will obviously work best with headphones!
Firstly, this is not a scientific comparison by any means. The video camera's (Panasonic HC-V210) microphone is probably subject to some automatic gain control. I used my mobile phone to grab the sound levels using the 'Noise Meter' Android app. It appears the device couldn't even really discern the CS100 probably due to the complete lack of low frequencies! It's dB figures are more for getting a relative value. I tried the dB Meter app in my car (radio off) at a constant 60 MPH and it recorded 70dB. The CS100 is quieter than that!
Secondly, London City is an extremely noise constrained airport. All aircraft operating have to meet stringent noise requirements, they're all 'quiet' so to speak. We can happily work at sites close to the runway without ear protection The Bombardier CS100 however, in my 30 years at London City is in a league of it's own with its new geared turbofans from Pratt & Whitney. It's probably even quieter than the first aircraft type to operate from LCY, the Dash 7
So, we set ourselves up adjacent to the runway on a quiet Bank Holiday afternoon to get this footage and try and record some decent audio from the Embraer and Swiss' new baby and compare the two. Enjoy the footage and comment on what you think.
Finally, the load factors which determines the thrust settings for each aircraft on takeoff are not known, this would need to be taken into consideration in a more scientific test.

A succesful 'baloon burst' as part of a flying club's 'Fun Day'. I was the only one to succeed (still haven't got my prize :-( ) . The video though, demonstrates, even in a light aircraft, the closing speeds and small reaction time to avoid were this to be something less visible such as a drone which would have significant potential to damage the aircraft and its occupants.

On Board G-BXSE, the last Cessna 172 to land at London City in 2008! Pilot-Paul takes the controls for finals in a sporty crosswind at London City Airport on 05 July 2008. Flown in at their 2008 Funday on PPR. The London City Airport Funday raises many thousands of pounds for the Richard House Children's Hospice which provides care and support for life-limited children and their families. http://www.richardhouse.org.uk/

Radio WDON provide the cracking up commentary to the penalty shootout that saw AFC Wimbledon gain their place back in the Football League just 9 years after they were formed. With thanks to the OB team at WDON who have given faraway and absent Wombles the best, slightly biased, coverage in that time.

Back in the Sim and just for fun, let's try a circuit at London City. Its 1560 metre long runway with a 5.5 degree approach pays testament to the reason the Boeing 737 doesn't operate there! Anyway, stay for the landing ..if you dare!!!
