We come to you this week with an update on Soheil Arabai, an ex-Muslim atheist political prisoner in Iran who may be facing charges of “propaganda against the Islamic Republic.” Sources inside Iran have informed us that a judge offered to release him if he wrote a forgiveness letter and promised not to repeat his actions, but Soheil refused, saying that the judge should ask for forgiveness instead. The judge told him to think about it, and “calm down” and respond in a week. Soheil raised his voice and boldly told the court that the only condition for him being calm is for the regime to bring back to life all the young people they have killed, and for the agents of the regime to be put on trial and punished for their crimes. Sources have also reported that when Soheil was transferred from the Greater Tehran Prison to a prison in Karaj, he was denied the medicine he needs for his high blood pressure. However, we do have some good news! On Feburary 7th, we learned that Soheil Arabi’s mother, Farangis Mazloum was released from prison! Farangis was serving a one-year sentence for "gathering and colluding against national security" and a six-month sentence for "propaganda activities against the state" due to her tireless activism on behalf of her son. A mother of three kids that attend schools within the Hays Unified School District in Kansas sent a complaint before the Board of Education about the school dress code policy that bars students from wearing satanic apparel. Mary Turner told the Board that her family has belonged to the Satanic Temple for years. She claimed that the district's non-discrimination policy expressly states that no student will be discriminated against based on their religion. Still, the school specifically bans any apparel that references satanism on elementary and middle school students. Turner told the Board, "Banning satanic students from wearing clothes that declares their faith while allowing students of all other faiths to wear similar clothing is an act of discrimination." After the board discussion, Superintendent Ron Wilson said he would discuss this with the school administrators and have the dress code back for them to approve on August 5th. This time, once again, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has requested that Twitter take action against our account at Atheist Republic for violating Pakistan's laws. What was our offense, you ask? One tweet featured a shirt design with a rainbow Kabba and the phrase "Allah is Gay" and and the second tweet is an AI art that takes a futuristic approach to challenging Islamic norms. What's more, one of tweets was from one week ago, while another was posted way back in 2020! The Pakistani government is digging up old tweets to come after us.
