Today, we return to the wonderful and wacky world of Shintoism, where our old pal Okuninushi finally wised up to his brother's antics and now seeks shelter from the God of Storms Susanoo. However, shortly after meeting the God's daughter, he may have stumbled into more than he bargained for.

Low-brow?
Of course it is, this is Messiahs and Mythology.
One of the greatest achievements in human history has been our solution to the issue of fecal matter and the disposal thereof, and so, it only makes sense that our ancestors (obsessed with animism as they are) should seek to deify some of these more unmentionable aspects of human existence.

Today, we revisit Japanese Mythology to closely examine the origins and symbolism associated with the Goddess of the sun, Amaterasu.

Well, that took a while didn't it?
Not much more to say about the big snake (at least until I decide to do a video on the other myths he involved in.)
Thanks again for all the support. If we keep growing at this ridiculous rate, I might actually have the Fenrir video out by the end of this year.

Some footnotes:
So let me start right off the bat by saying I made a big mistake while writing this script that I imagine some of you are going to call me out on. The Nihon Shoki and the Nihongi are the same book, and in the Nihongi, yes, Tsukiyomi did kill Uke Mochi. I was lead astray by this because the original translation of the Nihongi I read for this video did some sort of weird thing where they combined the Kojiki and the Nihongi together into a hosh-posh of conflicting sources.
However, my theory still stands about Prince Toneri using this book as a method of elevating his status as part of the royal family, and I would rather like to believe it was Susanoo who killed Uke Mochi just simply because his asking her for food, as well as his previously-established temper makes a lot more sense than Tsukiyomi (who did absolutely nothing this entire time in the Kojiki) randomly asking her for food, and also being married to his sister.
Now onto more minor details… there aren’t much… Some sources claim that the eight-headed serpent (Yamatta no Orochi), was really a dragon. However, I went back to the Kojiki and again, it said it was a serpent, not explicitly a dragon. The liquor the foot-rubbing old man used to intoxicate the snake was sake (kind of obvious). Inada’s age wasn’t specified, but considering that this was ancient Japan where there really weren’t too many laws on this, we can assume she was pretty young (unfortunately). The first emperor of Japan’s name was Jimmu and he was the great-grandson of Amaterasu (and supposedly Tsukiyomi, but not really).

May it be fire, volcano, earthquake, or meteor... Genesis 19 is never a good time...
Please refrain from asking questions until the end of the presentation, it'll just be easier for me to get around to answering everyone.

Ok, so I'm finally back! Well... sorta. This video has been on the back-burner for far too long and I've kept you all waiting for an inexcusable amount of time. Hopefully, if I can, I'll be able to get something out to you guys in a far more reasonable time span.
Anyhow, some notes. Yes, there are multiple different tellings of this creation story. It's basically shared between the Babylonians, the Sumerians, the Akkadians and a whole bunch of other early peoples. I hope to expand on some of the finer details if and when I get around to making a Sumerian creation story video.
I am also familiar that Uggae is more commonly referred to as Nergal, however, that's just who I read Kingu was sent to after his defeat at the hands of Marduk, and also that is a much more humorous name for a death god. You make it to Hell, try to introduce yourself, and the guy meeting you at the gate just holds out a hand and proclaims. "U ggae". Absolutely hysterical.
Yes, before anyone asks, Tiamut is the inspiration behind the biblical leviathan. In fact, Sumerian and Babylonian mythology influences a lot of Judean stories, including (as I not-at-all subtly hinted at) the great flood story, which has been recycled by so many mythologies it's hard to keep track over them all.
One final thing I'd like to note, for sources, we're going bare-bones this time, because in an effort to stray off confusion fro myself upon reading up on this creation story, I ONLY read the Enuma Elish. So here it is, a pdf copy of one such translation. https://genius.com/Translated-by-ea-speiser-enuma-elish-the-epic-of-creation-annotated

Valentine's Day was a mistake... Kind of like the subject of today's video! Ladies and gentlemen, I present you with Adonis, the God of Beauty in Greek Mythology and play-thing of the Gods.
Now while the name "Adonis" may be best-known as a complimentary title for a well-endowed man, the origins of the figure from mythology are far more obscure and a good-deal fascinating to learn about.
For example: Did you know that Adonis wasn't actually Greek? Or that the Myrrha tree is named for his mother? Or that of his five named lovers, three of them were actually men?
Discover all this and more in today's mythological character study!
...Oh, and Happy Valentine's Day... I guess...
