If you don't have good eyesight it can be very useful to be able to change the size of your text in your iPad applications. There are settings so that you can change the minimum text size just within Mail. Or you can go to the access ability settings and change the text size to be larger in contacts Mail and Messages applications on your iPad. Very useful. Also in this iPad tips video I have included how you can change the default Email signature. ----------------------------------------------- Want to find out when there are new videos on this channel?

How to Make a podcast with Backpack app.
The Backpack application for iOS is a way to create a podcast in a performance style. What you have is a number of sound pads on your screen. Tap on a sound pad to play a sound. The sounds could be things you’ve recorded already, bumpers, stingers, intros and outros. When you’re using backpack you’re able to mix recorded sounds with the sound collected from your microphone. While you have some music playing which he started by pressing on a sound pad you can talk over the top of it. Backpack has this facility called ducking which automatically makes the sound of the musical lower. This is so that the sound from the microphone is not overwhelmed by what is supposed to be a layer in the background.
You’re making your podcast in real time when using Backpack which is what I mean about it being a performance. So you can start the music for the podcast using one of the same pads then press the button for the microphone and start speaking to welcome your guests to the podcast. While you are speaking and also listening to the music in the background you can also add more sounds into the mix. So you could add a sound effect to go over the top of the music, but still be under the level from the microphone. It is even possible to make it so that a sound from the same pads will not duck. For whatever reason, you want this sound to be at the same level as your microphone recording.
If you have confidence in the way you speak and not so likely to make mistakes as you speak, then this sort of podcast making gives you dynamic results. It has a more 'live' sort of sound and less of a studio podcast experience for the listener.
You can also prerecord your own voice and put onto one of the sound pads. This way, if you make some mistakes as you're speaking you can edit that out to get the level of perfection you are looking for. You still work with the music, stingers and intros and bring in the microphone audio by pressing on your iPad screen. You could still be cautious and use the microphone live and keep your options open by not playing any music at the same time. This means you could go back to the final mix and edit those areas if necessary.
Using Backpack to make podcasts is a more fun way of creating your audio presentation and could give you a more off-the-cuff and friendlier sounding podcast.

In this video are doing some basic dictation into TextEdit using DragonDictate. I show you how to position the cursor in a specific place and to insert text before or after a word. I show you how to select words and to replace the words with other text. We look at how to use the correction window to choose an alternative spelling or option for a word.
Get the Book when it is available. - https://goodandgeeky.com/expert-dictation-mac-ios/
How to position the cursor at the start of the text or at the end
How to select the last word or phrase you spoke
How to select the next or the previous number of words from where the cursor or selection is
How to select the current paragraph
How to select a specific word or phrase
How to select all of the text of the document
How to put the selected text into clipboard
How to paste the clipboard into your document
Using dictation is so much faster than writing with the keyboard. I highly recommend spending time to get good dictation. Just the same as you spend time learning how to be fast typing with the keyboard. There's no reason why you should be able to write 5000 words per hour. If you are a professional writer then productivity is incredibly important. If you're a novel writer being able to get your ideas and scenes onto the page in a first draft ready for you to do a creative editing after that is much better with dictation. You'll be able to write your hundred thousand word novel in double quick time.
This video is part of the book showing you how to be an expert with dictation in Mac and iOS. The book looks at the free ways you can use dictation on your desktop and mobile devices. The free dictation methods are useful but not as good as using DragonDictate which is the best way to get words out of your head and onto the page. Get the book for more tips and tricks so you too can be an expert at dictation.

Shortcuts in Mac OS Monterey and iOS15 are here.
iOS 15 has finally been released. We are still waiting for the final version of Mac OS Monterey, but I’m using a beta version of it to get in early. In this video I show you how to create a shortcut in the shortcut app which you can use from the share sheet. You can take text from a document in whatever application you can access the share sheet and send the text to your collection place. In this one on the Mac using Craft and appending to a specific document. This works fine on the Mac. I wanted to also add it to a Draft document, but the actions on the Mac version of Shortcuts are not yet working properly.
So what I did was to create the first version of the shortcut in the Shortcuts app on the Mac and then go to the iOS version and add the rest of the actions required. The shortcut works perfectly well on the iPad and on the iPhone. When I’m in the Brave browser application I can access the share sheet when I have selected some text. Using the shortcut I can send that text to both Drafts and also to Craft.
This is a good way to collect information and ideas and to put them into one place. Or in my case I like to have it in two places. When it goes into Drafts I can setup the markdown text to be a to-do item. You just have to use the open square brackets with a space in between followed by a –. When it goes into craft it will go in as a bulleted item and you have to manually change into a to-do item. It would be nice if this could be done from within the shortcut but that’s not possible yet.

Kortney asked a question about how to get the bubble icon in the desktop app of Sorted3 when merging tasks.
I wasn't quite sure what she meant by the bubble icon but I thought I would give it a go.
You select multiple items by clicking on the items in the left side of the task in the list of tasks. Then you can do things with those multiple items like merging or using the auto schedule feature in Sorted3.
I'm still using Sorted 3 as my GTD app to organise myself. I need reminders to tell me when things need to be done. Or I forget, or I get distracted by something else.

Today I want to look at how I can make better use of Logseq. I like reading and like to have a record of the books I read. I do use the application Good Reads, but I think it would be nice to have my own database as well. I think I can use Logseq for this.
So what we need is a way to input the data quickly and efficiently and for this I have decided to use templates. I have templates for books I’ve read, TV series I’ve watched and also for movies.
When the data is put in the Logseq graph through the journal what I need then is a way for that to propagate into a page which gives me a list of all the books I’ve read so far. I have found two ways to do this and am going to show you both of them.
One way is to use tags and another way is to use a query. Just by using the tags in the template you can easily get yourself a list of whatever you’ve tagged with that tag. You can also do a query for a specific word or words. And that could work too. You might get extra items in your list if you use those words elsewhere in your Logseq graph.

Here’s a tutorial on how to export drafts out of the Drafts application into a folder on your Mac. You can also set this up so it will export out to iCloud Drive for to a file on your iPad or iPhone. Whatever your preference.
The basics for this shortcut came from Greg Pearce who is the developer of Drafts and I wanted to see if I could recreate the draft for myself in shortcuts. It is mostly the same but a couple of things didn’t work out a little bit different. A couple of things had me scratching my head and I had to work out how to get the job done.
The drafts are exported out of the application into the folder as .MD markdown files. In the shortcuts created by Greg it was necessary to specify this file suffix. When I did this in my shortcut it wasn’t necessary. It could just be that I was working with markdown files in the first place and that’s how they came out the other side.
What you could do with this if you want to issue could give yourself a menu to choose from whichever Workplace in Drafts you want to export out of. You could even have another menu which would pop up and ask you which folder you want the text files sent to. That’s the beauty of shortcuts, that you can customise your shortcut to have it work just the way you want it to.
This is still an early version of shortcuts on the Mac and there are one or two small bugs to get around. I managed to get around the problem of the zero not staying in the action where I wanted to initially. The patient with it because there will be many upgrades to come and it will get better and better.
