USS Bataan Conducts VERTREP with USNS Medgar Evers
Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Bataan (LHD 5) conducts a vertical replenishment with USNS Medgar Evers in the Mediterranean Sea, Aug. 4. The Bataan Amphibious Ready Group is currently underway for a scheduled deployment to the U.S. European Command and U.S. Central Command area of responsibility to defend U.S., allied, and partner interests.
A ballistic missile target, launched from the Pacific Missile Range Facility at Kauai, Hawaii during Flight Test Standard Missile-45 is acquired and intercepted by a SM-3 Block IIA guided missile, launched from the destroyer USS JOHN FINN (DDG-113). The ship detected and tracked the target missile with its onboard AN/SPY-1 radar using the Aegis Baseline 9.C2 weapon system.
